Crimes against women and the elderly have increased by 78% this past year alone. And, our most vulnerable population is now more than ever at risk for robberies, rape, beatings and other potentially life-threatening injuries. Research has shown that those would-be victims who resist and skillfully fight back have greater chances of survival than those who do not. I was professionally trained in martial arts in the discipline of Judo during the 1970's and 80's. However, I am now 87 years old and am confined to a wheelchair. Therefore, the self defense skills that I once possessed I can no longer perform. Because I am now more than ever at risk for life-threatening injuries by would-be assailants, I began an intense research into other non-lethal forms of self defense. Here are the four self defense tools that I have determined are the best non-lethal weapons for women and seniors that can be legally used in all 50 of our United States. These four self defense tools can be easily mastered by almost all women and senior citizens and can be the most effective weapons in their arsenal of self defense. These are: * Pom Pepper Spray * A loud siren with strobe light * A tactical self defense pen * A Cane Masters self defense cane. Since I have already written reviews on two of these self defense items I will now focus on the tactical use of the Pom Pepper Spray. There are three important things to consider when choosing and using pepper spray as a self defense weapon: * Choose the highest potency of pepper spray that can legally be used as a self defense weapon in your particular state. (Some brands are illegal in some states). * Keep the pepper spray in a place where it can be easily and readily accessed as a self defense weapon. * Learn the safest and best ways to effectively deploy this weapon and practice, practice, practice. Having looked at many brands of pepper spray on the market I have chosen the Pom Pepper Spray as my first self defense weapon of choice. The pepper in the Pom Pepper Spray is extremely powerful and it is legal in all 50 states. The trigger on the canister is easy to access and the safety mechanism prevents the trigger from accidently discharging. I prefer the Pom SPRAY over the Pom Gel because the active ingredient is released faster to temporarily blind your assailant than does the gel. It is important to carry the Pom Pepper Spray in a place where it can easily and readily be deployed as an effective self defense weapon. Because almost all attacks on victims happen within seconds (not minutes) it does little good to carry the Pom Pepper Spray in your pocket or purse. By the time you access the pepper spray from these locations it would be too late to use it. I carry three containers of Pom Pepper Spray whenever I go outside of my home. The first canister is clamped to my wheelchair near my hand where I can readily access it. The second canister is carried on my right side connected to my belt in a Rushcarry holster that is specially designed to hold the Pom Pepper Spray canister. This holster allows for concealment and quick release and can be carried on either side of the body. The Rushcarry Holster can be purchased on Amazon. The third canister is located on my left side connected to my belt with a chain. My pepper spray arsenal, therefore, includes two clip-on canisters the other being the key chain quick release model. Both of these two items can be purchased on Amazon. The laws in my State of California limit the size of the pepper spray canister that I am allowed to carry, but they do not limit the numbers of canisters that I can carry. I, therefore, always carry two canisters on my person; if I run out of spray or if I accidentally drop a canister I have a backup canister that I can readily access. I have learned how to deploy my Pom Pepper Spray at the same time I deploy my loud siren-strobe light. I carry my siren-strobe light on a lanyard around my neck. It has a quick release connection enabling me to point the strobe light directly into the eyes of my would-be assailant in one hand and the Pom Pepper Spray in the other. Both the strobe light and the pepper spray temporary blinds the assailant at the same time. And, the loud siren disorients the assailant and most likely will put him on the run. My tactical pen and self defense cane in most cases would not even be needed. Even so, it's always best to have something and not need it, than to need something and not have it. There are some excellent demo videos on YouTube that teach how to safely and effectively use pepper spray. Many of the things that I have shared with you I have learned from these videos. You might also find them helpful. Once you learn the best ways to carry pepper spray, having executed a dynamic self defense strategy that works for you, it is important to practice these skills until you can implement them flawlessly. Knowing these skills will give you peace of mind even if you never need them - and hopefully you never will. These are great little units. I was out hiking with my dogs when a coyote decided to go after my dogs. They came running back to me with the coyote in tow. My chicken dogs ran and hid behind me. The coyote came right up to me, was about to bite me. I took this out, turned it so it would spray and gave him a shot to the face. Poof, he disappeared in seconds. It’s great stuff. I’d imagine it will work for any bad guy as well

Haven't tested how it sprays yet, but I do like the size and the safety top. Has a better feel in the hand than the Sabre brand spray I once had. I ordered the blue aqua and recieved pink. So that's a little bit of a bummer, as I'm not a huge fan of pink.

I can say that this is easy to carry around and love that it can clip to my pocket. Bought for safety while running/walking. Haven't had to use it, but if I ever do, I'll update the review. I also like that it has a flip top to get to the "trigger" so it is hard to accidentally spray.
