The Zoo Gang [DVD]

Although I have the series on DVD, I wanted to get the BLU-RAY because of the restoration carried out for this release.There are some extras too., not caried over from the previous release.The restoration is one of the best of a series of this vintage, and is even better than NETWORK's previous relase, The Professionals, which was the pinnacle of restorations for archive series.This is even better, (the Zoo Gang being shot on 35mm, instead of 16mm film).The series is beautiful to look at.It is a great show, one of my favourites.It has a charm that a new series cannot capture. The cast are top-notch.The four main cast were all veterans at this point.The series guest cast are also great, and the even the weaker episodes are still marvellous.

I remember this series from my childhood but not in too much detail. I've watched the first 3 episodes and it;s great. Good stories and great acting, It's a shame it's only 6 episodes long. Thoroughly recommended.

A most fondly remembered show from my early child hood, that did not let me down. Wonderful plots and script. And brilliantly entertaining performances from the four principals.

The Zoo Gang has a winning format........it has a strong cast, good story lines and scripts and exotic locations. In the 60s and 70s nobody did the 'adventure series' quite like the ITC productions. It was the golden age of this particular genre and The Zoo Gang delivers. A great shame that only 6 episodes were ever produced, but a treasure that we can all enjoy courtesy of Network DVD.An ageing group of WW2 resistance fighters are reunited almost 30 years after the war ended to use their particular talents in forgery, impersonation and 'daring do' to 'out do' modern-day criminals and to raise money for a hospital. American Actor Brian Keith (The Parent Trap, Nevada Smith, The Russian Are Coming and so many other film and TV appearances I couldn't list them all), John Mills (simply a legend as far as British Cinema is concerned), German Actress Lilli Palmer (Thunder Rock, Operation Crossbow and again too many others to mention) and not least Canadian Actor Barry Morse (TV's The Fugutive, Space 1999, The Twighlight Zone, The Untouchables and a string of other films and tv work) make up The Zoo Gang, codenames - 'The Fox', 'The Elephant', 'The Leopard' and the 'The Tiger'.Yes, it's nostalic. Yes, it's dated. But if you like good TV when the UK was the market leader and made other productions look ordinary - this is for you. Don't miss it!

Four French Resistance fighters reunite to bring law and order to the Riviera in this very short series from ITC.It is an interesting mini series of pure escapism. And if you like other ITC productions you will like this.The four characters had been in the French resistance in the second world war and they had split up. But now they are back together again. Each has an animal codename. Tommy Devon the team leader is the elephant, He works in an antiques shop on the French Riviera and recognises an old Nazi adversary and calls upon the other three operatives to help bring this war criminal to justice. The other operatives are Stephen Halliday an electronics expert known as the fox, Alec Marlowe a mechanical genius known as the tiger, and Madame Manouche Roget the widow of another team member who was killed in the war. He was known as the Wolf. She is also an explosives expert and has a son who is a French policeman. The newly formed team go on to tackle other crime I five more stories. There were only six episodes but it makes an interesting concept that could have been developed further.The series stars John Mills in his first TV role. And Lilli Palmer. The theme music was provided by Paul McCartney.

Long forgotten by most this show has, despite it's Cote d'Azur setting, more of a feel of 1970's American television series than other ITC shows of that time. Although hardly lavish by modern standards it is still noticeably less cheap looking than its stablemates.The premise- old 2nd world war comrades reunite to fight crime- is quite a good one, but the stories seem interchangeable with those of the Persuaders and the Protectors albeit largely lacking in the panache of the former. [ Much better than the latter thankfully] The first and last episodes are the pick whilst Ingrid Pitt is a splendid guest in another episode.John Mills and Lilli Palmer are pretty good in their roles and Brian Keith and Barry Morse are okay even if their parts seem more than a touch underdone. Seretta Wilson does not do much except look nice- a fate which befell most young actresses in ITC productions.

Brilliant original story. Ex french resistance and the female now a mum who's son is a lieutenant in the police. Their resistance group had code names after animals elephant tiger ect hence their group called zoo gang during WWII. Moving forward to present day 1970s and they get together again for revenge in the first story and then on to the other stories episodes. Great actor's great scripts great scenery and great camera work. I purchased the blue ray and brilliant picture quality and sound track worth the extra amount. Also some great extra features like trailer,behind photos.

As the saying goes.They don’t make them like this anymore. Just great fun. I remember watching it as a 12 year old. 4 wonderful actors who clearly seem to be enjoying them selves.

J'ai découvert cette série anglaise par hasard en glanant des informations sur Amicalement Vôtre. C'est une mini série classique des productions ITC mais en 6 épisodes seulement...et malheureusement car on aimerait en voir plus ! J'ai vraiment apprécié retrouver l'ambiance de l'époque des séries télévisées comme Amicalement Vôtre, Chapeau Melon et Bottes de cuir, Département S, Le Retour du Saint, etc... Les 3 acteurs et l'actrice principaux sont excellents. Le tournage des principaux épisodes à été réalisé sur la côte d'Azur entre Cannes, Nice et Monaco ce qui en fait l'originalité. Une partie de l'épisode The Lion Hunt a été tournée à la Villa Kerylos de Saint Jean Cap Ferra ! Il reste regrettable de ne pas trouver de sous-titres en français à défaut de version française...on se débrouille sans.

First off let me start by saying you will need a multi region DVD player in order to enjoy this version of the show. There is no USA release of the show at this time.Now on to the show. I remember seeing it in the seventies during the summer when the networks would run British shows instead of reruns from the networks.This and the Strange Report became favorites of mine one summer as a teenager.The show has an all star cast and wonderful locals. It is about a group of resistance fighters getting back together in the 70's and using their skills to take on crime.Sir John Mills ,Lili Palmer, Brian Keith and Barry Morse are the Gang. It is a quick pace 7 episode series. The stories are fun and many good guest stars show up. I found it an excellent way to pass a cold and snowy day. Good fun easy going entertainment.

The product was as advertised, good quality and compatible with my computer for viewing purposes in North America.The product was delivered well in advance of expected delivery (added bonus). They did exactly as promised which is what one would expect.

Now they have come together many years later, to use their skills to fight crime. The action takes place on the French Riviera during the 70's, when life was much simpler and the stories do not rely on sophisticated special effects, nor violence and bad language, but rather on the ability of the actors including the well known Lilli Palmer and Sir John Mills.. It is a pity that only one series was produced as this is good light entertainment.

geniale serie mit tollen schauspielern. wer die 70er mag und englisch versteht wird auf seine kosten kommen.schade, dass sie nie im deutschen tv lief.
