I watched the film when it was shown first in cinema. A year or two later I saw the full series on TV. It was even more captivating to watch this monument to honour our fallen soldiers at sea. Last year I saw the director's cut which I found a bit disappointing as the human aspect was shortcut. It would nevertheless be a good introduction, a good first for people who have never seen "Das Boot" . The film appears totally timeless, as if it was a brand new production. Klaus Doldinger's music as well still perfect.

Great versions of a great film.

Flimsy outer packaging mars the otherwise complete edition featuring the original movie, the director's cut, the TV series and the soundtrack, plus the audiobook of the novel, which unfortunately for me is in German.

This is probably the finest film dealing with submarine warfare. Both the storyline and the production are faultless. This particular set of DVDs is by far the best. It includes the Directors Cut film, the original TV series and audio book. The languages are both German and English as are subtitles.

It took me some time to decide on this purchase as some information about the various versions can be somewhat unclear, mostly due to reviews that are not for the given product. This review is of the 8 disc set, Blu Ray format, including bonus content and CD material. So far, I've homed in on the 6 disc TV series. I watched this when it was first broadcast and it made a huge impression back then. A tale of drama and character insight, portrayed with great acting and excellent effects/modelling which puts some of today's CGI to shame. I don't believe I've had the chance to re-watch the series since first broadcast, and to date had been enjoying an abridged version on DVD. This Blu Ray version is so much better, and somewhat keeping closer to the book, there is more time given to the individual characters. Their transition from inexperienced crew to battle hardened submariners is a key part of the story. Yes, most that have any awareness of the story will know how it all works out, but that never makes it less engrossing. In terms of quality I was wary that on a large TV it may expose weaknesses, but no, it looks and sounds fantastic. I've yet to check out the other versions and bonus material that are included but doubt I will be let down. The only slight disappointment really is the audio only version on CD, which doesn't appear to have an English version included. That might be nice for those that want to take an audio-book perspective so I've docked a star off the rating for that. The soundtrack inclusion is nice to have though. Overall a great package.

Probably the best war film ever. Really gives an insight into what it might be like to be aboard a U-Boot during WW2. Very long (some say monotonous) but isn’t what it would have been like at times? Apart from that you might be detected and depth-charged at any time. This IS the best released version (so far) Get some food and drink in and Bing watch..

This includes the English the original BBC audio on the TV version,and the German audio has English subtitles too. I have every version of this classic and outstanding tv series and films. You need the tv version, the rest are OK,but you can buy into the characters in the TV version far better,and certain parts of their lives come through more. Like my title says,avoid the political correct Sky one version blu ray,it is embarrassing to watch,and is written to give a lesson on today's political view, this version is purely about the lives of u boat men,not garbage story lines that begger believe layered with awful acting. Choose the best raw and original ,written by someone with real unter see boot experience. Buy it,what are you waiting for.

Sul film si potrebbe parlare per ore, a mani basse uno dei migliori film di guerra mai usciti! In breve il film è basato su un libro di Lothar Günther Buchheim, un resoconto romanzato del suo imbarco su un Uboat durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale; infatti il film segue le vicende di un UBoat di pattuglia nell'Atlantico nel 1941, senza spettacolarismi hollywoodiani, si passa dallo stress di giorni e settimane di navigazione senza avvistare un bersaglio, alla frenesia di una caccia al convoglio, al dramma psicologico di un attacco con bombe di profondità. Ottima la regia di Petersen, allora sconosciuto, ma che riceverà per questo film una candidatura agli Oscar (sui 6 ricevuti dal film, nessun vinto); ottima la fotografia, anche considerato gli spazi stretti in cui si doveva girare; indimenticabile la colonna sonora. Arriviamo al contenuto di questo bellissimo cofanetto: - PREMESSA: nonostante la copertina e il libretto presente all'interno siano in tedesco, il film è fruibile sia in tedesco che in inglese (entrambe doppiaggio originale in quanto gli attori originali hanno doppiato il film in entrambe le lingue), anche i sottotitoli sono presenti in tedesco o in inglese; - un piccolo libricino con immagini e breve descrizione della realizzazione del film, insieme all'elenco completo dei contenuti dell'edizione; - l'edizione originale cinematografica da 149 minuti (1 Blu-Ray); - la Director's Cut da 208 minuti (1 Blu-Ray); - l'edizione uscita in TV come miniserie, per un totale di 308 minuti (2 Blu-Ray): - contenuti extra vari, circa 4 ore (1 Blu-Ray) - l'audiolibro (2 CD) - la colonna sonora (1 CD) Praticamente in questo cofanetto si trova tutto quello che si potrebbe per godersi un film assolutamente da vedere! Se non si può fare a meno del doppiaggio in italiano, si consiglia sempre la Director's Cut in BluRay, che oltre al tedesco e all'inglese ha anche del nostro doppiaggio, insieme a buona parte dei contenuti extra di questa edizione.

I think most people who purchase this set will have already seen Das Boot and want a deeper dive into the film (pun intended). They will not be disappointed. This set contains about everything you could possibly want concerning the film. The final Director's Cut, the TV Series, CDs, etc. It's truly a piece of history and will provide many hours of enjoyment. Wikipedia has a nice summary of the film and TV series that I found helpful prior to viewing the TV Series and bonus material. Highly recommended.

Classic series from when I was younger, I was delighted to be able to get it as I had only seen it on television when I I was younger. Brilliant.

Alle versies van de film die je wilt hebben zijn aanwezig. Bonus-disc is ook zeer uitgebreid maar wat een miskleun om hier geen (Engelse) ondertiteling bij te doen. Er is alleen Duitse ondertiteling bij de Engels gesproken onderdelen.
