The quartz glass sleeve protects the uv lamp from the water running past it and in order to work efficiently the quartz sleeve should be clean so that the UV light from the lamp can pass through it to kill the algae. Great replacement for a damaged tube

Too short!
Although this is supposedly suitable for my Yamitsu filter, it is about 2cm shorter than one I need to replace. Instead of being the length of the light, it is the exact length of the UV housing, so there was nothing sticking out to get the O rings onto. In the process of trying to push the rings onto the end of the tube I cracked it, so I can't even return it for a refund.

Good oid sleeve but didnt fit.
The sleeve didn't fit my yamitzu uv filter, it was too short by about 25 mm. However, the seller was easy to deal with and the return and refund handled promptly.
