Arrived quickly
I ordered this notching bit in the hopes of solving a cabinet door manufacturing problem I have. Client wants beaded door frames with beads closest to center panel, and the only way to do that is to miter the doors, which would require dowels or spline or something to reinforce the doors. Then, found this bit online. Watched a YouTube video or two while I was waiting for it to arrive.First, what I'm not happy about. Unfortunately, I can't find any information about setting up the bit, dimensions, etc. from Kreg or anywhere else. No instructions came with it. Kreg has a fancy jig for sale which makes use of this notching bit and accompanying bead bits, but it is nearly $400. No thanks, unless I get a lot more orders for these kinds of doors or face frames. Anyway, saw a setup block that came as part of that kit, but try as I might, I can't find that set-up block available as a stand alone product. Doesn't make the bit useless, just more fussy in setup. On to using it ... Since this will be my first time building doors with this thing, I prepared some scrap stock and proceeded to work on a prototype door to find out whether this bit will do what I need it to do. As I said in the first paragraph, set-up is fussy without a manufacturer supplied set-up block. For any hobbyist thinking about buying this bit: This a precision bit, and your set-up HAS to be dead on or the miters will not close properly. What I did was to build a shop made jig to hold my workpiece, dialed in my height of cut and then made my own setup block. If I was building pocket holed face frames, this bit would make the process easier, because I then wouldn't have to contend with the math on stub tenons to put doors together. Ultimately, old eyes and a lack of attention caused me to take a strong 1/32" out during the tenon making process which kept my joint from closing properly. Not the fault of the bit, but I mention it because if you miss your dial-ins, things aren't going to look right. The bit appears well manufactured, sharp. Because of the overall diameter of the bit, turn your router speed down, if you can. I found if I took most of the material out via dado stack first, and used the bit to bring it to finish, it worked a lot better. Overall, this bit will add a dimension to my work I didn't have before and, at the price, is a bargain. I should have mentioned it earlier, but don't use this bit in a handheld router; table mount ONLY. Take your time, set it up properly, and it produces excellent results. I may give this 5 stars down the road, but without being able to buy a setup block for it, I'm taking off one star.

Excellent!
It Cuts cleanly, leaving a smooth surface. I used it to create raised panels and it did a fine job.

Lack of precision, grossly out of spec for price.
I discovered a flaw in my notch cutter. It will be stored, wonโt use it.One of the two notch cutters was appreciably higher than the other. I was very disappointed in discovering this. I will try Sommerfield System.
