Are these made/sold from China?

I think so. They don't work well in the winter as the sun is not strong enough for the charger to hold any charge. Mine onky works for a few mins and then slowly fades. I would not buy them again.

Do they have strings or they can be inserted on the ground also?

Hello, the string lights come with a spike and two screws, you can insert the spike into the ground to set up the solar panel or fix it to wood or wall by a screwdriver.
