As an inexperienced individual, this stuff is great!
I have never cooked with Saffron. I was aware of it's existence in the Universe and based on the coloration of the rice I have made in the past and the color of the rice while using this product, I'm sure I've eaten lots of foods with saffron included but it was not with foreknowledge. Here's the short version, this stuff is great. If you've never cooked rice with saffron and you're hesitant to pay the price for a small, 5g jar of saffron, end the hesitation, buy it and try it. This is not a hammer, in the face spice like black pepper or salt but instead is a subtle spice that brings internal flavors together which has the effect of elevating the taste quality of the food being eaten. Since I was inexperienced, I was clueless what to expect. For my introduction to this flavor, I prepared a rice bowl, who's taste I was familiar with. I boiled up a cup of water in the microwave and added a small pinch of saffron threads to the hot water that consisted of fifteen or twenty threads. I allowed the threads to steep in the hot water while preparing the rice for the microwave or in total, allowed the saffron threads to steep for about five minutes. The resulting, strong golden yellow tea was added to the rice mixture. The measuring glass was lightly rinsed so as to retrieve all the threads and solution on the sides of the glass and the rinse water added to the rice. The rice was microwaved. My first impression was, okay, lightly creamy. No overpowering odor or taste. The saffron add was, the rice creation now had a full on creamy taste that was yummy compared to the nice but bland rice bowl I normally had been making. Since the first use, I've made my low cal rice bowl five/six times (rice, chicken, garlic salt and black pepper) and this creamy flavor comes to the forefront, each and every time. At this point, I'm addicted and can't imagine returning to the blandness of the past rice bowl creation. My expectations as to frugality of the cost.....I expect to get maybe thirty bowls of rice out of this purchase. Much less than the 120 or so servings that I've read about but for what you get, elevating the taste of a bowl of rice in this fashion, my opinion, this is money well spent and without hesitation, will be spent again. The blunt version; anything to make my cooking taste better, I'm all for. The above are my inexperienced first impressions. To those who know saffron, you will know if my comments are spot on. And to those who are inexperienced and looking at this review in curiosity of should you indulge yourself or not, by all means, do. The result will be a subtle, blending of tastes that will elevate the mundane tastes a couple of levels to: Hey, this is good stuff and the only difference will be cutting back on pepper and the addition of saffron tea. The product has no real smell to it. Nothing but the light background smell of.....well, fresh saffron. Overall, this is a product I feel comfortable referring to both experienced and inexperienced users and from all my research, this is a quality product at an excellent delivered price. "Mangiare!"

Excellent vendor will buy from again.
It's taken me a while to write a review for this saffron. I haven't really had a chance to start using it until 3 days ago. I've been meaning To try and get in contact with the vendor to let them know that this is excellent quality A+. Pure saffron in its best quality there's no little residue of crumbly bits on the bottom of the tin meaning is machine used & are removed from the petals harshly. Not good if the water is pure yellow it's real. If not red if then it's been dyed in its not the real thing. Real saffron it also has a slightly bitter yet aromatic flavor and only a tiny bit extract so much flavor when I got the tin even though I've got 7 g the can was small. I expected it to be bigger and I was very disappointed as I had paid $30 for it. I intend to get more now that I see what good quality. It is in I understand the price being high. Because this does have to be hand picked off the flower in its very time consuming and tedious and very meticulous work. In fact I'd like to grow some of these are could get enough ball said take a couple years and harvest my own and takes time for them to take root but I grow things all the time I garden every year I farm. But I intend to get a larger amount of this next month OI haven't gone through what I have yet I still have plenty but I intend to stock up this is there a very good quality in this is a very reputable vendor. And this is one of the few things that Amazon actually got delivered to my house Since I have a crapy driver on my route who never half the time delivers anything to my home. Amazon always says they'll fix it or HAVE fixed the delivery issue. Yeah right it kept happening 🙄🤔🙄 So, as of my first delivery since I cancelled because of poor delivery. Im getting a second degree & was offered a different trial period. I've taken a student subscription trial subscription now. When it's over cheaper rate, and also for music too. But, I said I'd buy ok ne thing & by choice I have to go to the local depot which I don't mind in order to make sure I get my stuff. That's pretty say it but I'd rather do that then miss out on buying something as good as this. Excellent quality excellent vendor I give her 5 stars all the way across. To the vendor to you and your family I appreciate your dedication and hard work this is excellent.

Saffron, its necessary
Ive been using saffron for many years, this is a good saffron but not a great saffron. It seemed a bit weak, but it was still good and better than that you can get in your average store, if you can find it. I did like the packaging, will stay fresh longer, it has a nice texture and flavor and did bloom in both the stock i used it and the plain water before adding to the dish. I would order again. Who knew such a small thing could garner a long review.

Good saffron at a good price
The saffron is an absolutely beautiful crimson red, and tastes just as wonderful. It has an earthy, slightly bitter taste with just enough hint of sweet to leave you wanting more. I like putting it in with herbal tea and just a touch of honey. I also like it on ice cream as much as I like it on rice and many other things. The saffron is well-handled. There were no obvious broken or poor-quality bits in the tin. The packing is nice. It arrived in a golden packet with the product in a similarly pretty tin. It looks pretty enough to not need to hide it in a spice cabinet with a bunch of old bottles. Mine sits right next to my electric kettle. They make a good pair! The only problem I had with the packaging is that the tamper-evident seal is really difficult to remove. Once the lid was off and ready to be put back on, it is very easy to think the lid was placed properly, when it wasn't. I had to push the lid on until it clicked in place. I almost had a pretty big spill if I hadn't noticed! There is good value for the money with this product. Considering the incredibly high price of saffron in general, this is a high-quality item at a bang-for-the-buck price!

The Spaniard in Me loves this product! :)
I have been reading up on the wonderful healing powers of Saffron lately. As a child, saffron was a regular staple in our Spaniard-Cuban-American kitchen. My parents and grandparents swore by it. Its qualities are many, not just as an aphrodisiac,.... although that is great too! I have found and re-discovered the wonderful use of saffron from Mehr. This is some good saffron. Inside these cute little bottles are "pure" saffron threads, not the powder with fillers stuff being sold out there in bulk. It tinges the white rice a beautiful golden yellow and makes all the many different recipes taste delicious. The use of Saffron in Europe, the Caribbean and the Middle East is legendary. How I use it....put some of the individual threads inside a pestle...not many, just a few are quite sufficient, but it's all up to individual taste....add a few drops of water, and crush it away. Once the color has been well mixed, add it in the rice and Voila! Wonderful on seafood dishes. Great with Spanish Paella and chicken fricassee...even New Orleans Gumbo. This is a great spice to try and to enjoy. Bon Appetite and Good Health!

You won't believe How Tiny the Bottle Is
Well, it's definitely a gram of fine quality saffron (aromatic and potent and quite flavorful when used in your paellas or what-have-you) but you will be snickering when you see the size of the bottle it comes in. Small? Um ... this could have served as a tequila-bottle for my G.I. Joe action-figure when I was a kid and even then Joe would have gone thirsty. If you are easily dismayed by spending a certain amount of money and then receiving something practically microscopic in return, you might want to rethink this. But a gram of saffron is a gram of saffron, I guess.

Fragrant, Flavorful, and Vibrant – Excellent Saffron!
This saffron is truly premium quality. I love how rich the aroma is the moment you open the container—it smells fresh and natural. The flavor is just as impressive: bold, slightly sweet, and unmistakably saffron. It also gives dishes a beautiful golden color, which is exactly what I expect from high-grade saffron. A little goes a long way, and it's perfect for everything from rice to tea. Knowing that it's hand-picked and naturally grown without fertilizers adds to the value. I'm really happy with the quality and will definitely buy it again when it's back in stock.

Satisfying Quality for Price
The container is double-sealed, metal tin inside an airtight plastic bag. A few notes that help you distinguish quality: 1. The saffron smells very sweet but does not taste sweet. No chemical aftertaste when directly consumed. 2. The threads are dry, not moist, in the tin. 3. Soaking the threads in a glass of cold water produces a light yellow hue, no deep reds, taking about 7 minutes to saturate the entire glass with a golden/dandelion color. 4. Soaked threads when rubbed between fingers do not break or powder but hold together quite well. 5. No visible impurities or corn threads. (I am not a professional on this last point) My only complaint is that I find the metal tins can be difficult to open at times. My preference is screw-top glass.
