AKG C519M is a great mic for saxophone!
While I did not buy this AKG C519M microphone on Amazon I felt it should be reviewed. I have liked AKG products in the past and thought I would give this microphone a try for our sax player at church after reading a few reviews. I did research most of the major brands that make a similar clip-on style mic for instruments before I purchased the AKG. I have also heard the Audio Technica Pro 35 and I have had experience with live sound for 20+ years. When I recently received the mic I was immediately impressed with the construction of the mic. It has a very sturdy construction; the clip is strong enough for attaching to the bell of the horn yet made from a soft enough plastic that it won't mar the finish of the horn. The wires are enclosed in the goose neck. Also love the removable, mini-XLR cable at the base of the mic.As for sound of the mic - our sax player, sound techs and I were very pleasantly surprised at how incredible this mic sounds. It has a small condenser element but it captures the full range of the alto sax very clearly. It has an amazing sound for the sax while allowing the horn player to move around while playing and not be stuck motionless against a stationary mic.I'd say this mic is worth every penny it costs for sound and construction. Great job AKG!

Will NOT fit my b-flat clarinet, and despite their claims, may not fit your wind instrument.
Despite stating on the AKG website that the c519 will clip softly onto the bell of "any wind instrument", this is demonstrably untrue. When I contacted AKG directly saying that the clip would not attach to my clarinet, they pointed out that their website was covered by a legal notice saying thatAKG cannot in any way guarantee that statements on the AKG website are correct. When i pointed out that in the C519 manual (which i read online before purchase) it shows a diagram and explanation of how to clip the mic onto a clarinet, AKG countered that the manual gave information of how to use the C519, not what to use it with(?!)... and anyway it also doesn't mean that it can fit ALL clarinets. Apparently that includes my R13 Buffet b-flat clarinet, arguably the most popular model of clarinet in the world. It is, also, I'm pretty sure, a wind instrument.
