I saw one of these in use so decided to get one myself. Put the charcoal in it, put a single piece of newspaper underneath and lit it. In 20 minutes the charcoal is glowing red and ready to be poured into the grill. No lighter fluid needed, just some newspaper and a lighter. There is no flare up, just a constant getting more red and hotter. I absolutely love it.
