

Seeing Heaven The summer of 2010 will be remembered as initiating the renaissance of lesbian cinema, especially with the mainstream lesbian Brokeback, The Kids are All Right, opening this July to unanimous approval from critics as well as both general and LGBT-friendly audiences. One of the most promising films hitting this year s circuit is the documentary Edie and Thea: A Very Long Engagement. The documentary offers an intimate lens into the lives of Edie Windsor and Thea Spyer, who have been together for over forty years, and who, after a very long engagement spanning most of that duration, were finally able to marry in Toronto in 2008. The film begins with an aged Edie and Thea commenting upon photographic stills that are being projected onto a wall in their home. The images consist of their collective travels around the world, from New York to Venice, from the Hamptons to a small little African village, in a manner that intimates how much, and how extensively, the two have lived together, through time and around the globe. The images Edie on the beach in her pink bikini, seemingly straight out of a mid-century Vogue; black and white portraits of Thea that frame her beautiful jaw-line and very sexy eyebrows are glamorous and offer an intimacy into the history of their partnership. The overarching theme of a very long engagement shapes the narrative form of the documentary, whereby the two are determined to marry, even though Thea s MS has become increasingly debilitating in her advanced age. Regardless of the fact that she has been in a wheelchair since her mid-20s, Thea takes immense pleasure in dancing with Edie. Echoing the traditional emphasis placed on the first dance, and on dancing at a marriage reception in general, the two speak gleefully at length about how much they have always loved to dance together so much so that, during one of their first dances, they danced so long together that Edie had holes in the bottom of her stockings by the end of the night. Devoid of an overbearing, politically correct agenda, Edie and Thea is a love story that transcends politics, cultures, and identities. Sure, they reminisce about experiencing pre-Stonewall New York, and there are brief scenes that skim the surface of their work on behalf of civil rights throughout the decades. But, at its heart, this film is about creating a life with another person and committing to that person fully, with all your body, mind and spirit in sickness, and in health. A documentary about two old fuddy-duddy lesbians, the film seemed to promise the shock and awe of the oppressive '60s to someone who gasped at and thoroughly enjoyed Mad Men's lesbian scene. But Edie & Thea is so much more than that. You can blame the heightened levels of estrogen in the film's audience for your watering eyes, but the truth is that this film about a love that spans several decades is honest and heartfelt without being saccharine. Edie, who was present at the Frameline screening, was an absolute character (and still a bombshell in all her years). Both her and Thea's personalities had the audience in stitches as they shuffled through their memories from the years. Despite appearances otherwise, the focus here is the relationship rather than the history. Good Mixed Disturbing
This movie, I originally viewed online and well, it's one of those movies that I can't really describe. It is one that I would enjoy watching, for the sex scenes and otherwise. However I do remember the ending being quite disturbing to me at first watch. I suggest trying to view it online before you buy, but it's a good movie in my opinion.

Interesting idea poorly executed
Interesting idea executed really badly. The idea for a great plot is there, and the movie had potential to be great based on the idea, but the script, and especially the dialogue, is bad. A lot of the acting isn’t very good, and some of the character motivations don’t make sense. There is also a completely unnecessary twist ending that makes absolutely no sense and ruins anything positive about the movie that came before, along with a ridiculous “villain” and really antiquated attitudes toward a specific type of adult filmmaking, even for 2010 when the movie was released.

Underlying Message?
So this film is a little different, erotic fantasy type film about a cute blond guy who has to be sexually penetrated very hard to see visions. Visions of what? That I am not too sure about. He thinks that he is connecting to his twin brother, and it seems the premise of this film is that he is in search of this missing brother. He is a "rent boy" and seems to be easily manhandled and open for sexual abuse to anyone walking by because his focus is on searching for this brother. Someone mentioned that this film is about the exploitation of young attractive men by the gay porn industry, I didnt really see that in this film, but I will say that there seems to be a underlying critism of bareback gay pornographic films. While this movie could have been a lot better, I have to admit the eye candy was quite pleasant, however if good looking guys is all one is looking for, I would think that your money could be better spent on a film that is made specifically for sexual titilation. There is something about this film that I found interesting outside of the shallow attractiveness of the actors. There are some obscure literary references and some issues that spark thought. I would like to reference the any truth behind the story of the man who like Jack the Ripper killed prostitutes, however this man killed attractive young men that worked the street corners. This movie has little things that pop up every now and then that are fascinating, but the main character Paul is nice to look at none-the-less.

Bizare film on relations of a mother and her son
A film worth watching and adding to your collection if you are interested in psychiatry and Childhood developent-from boyhood to teenager. Convincing acting.

A very good bad movie.
I loved the movie, I hated it and then I loved it again. The story telling of the movie could use more polish, some of the relationships that developed in the movie weren't flesh out enough during the film. However the overall story was pretty good. The beginning of the movie was a little heavy handed with monologues about beauty which they kept repeating and felt like it was going to be a one note this is what you are supposed to take away from the movie. However as the movie developed, even though watching you could guess the twist at the end, it turned into a decent movie. Not a great movie but a good movie.

Complex and Surprising
A gay hustler is dealt a rather confusing hand. His strong desire for sexual relations is crippled by visions of a long lost brother and a possible evil character that appears as a dream in the act of sex. Most confusing is the visions seem to be shared with his partners creating a myriad of conflicts with his customers. Is it porn or is it a mystery, the answer is yes to both. An interesting film but hardly a conventional offering. Recommended.

Not a Must See
If you are a heterosexual, I don't think you will enjoy this movie!!! In case you were wondering, it has nothing to do with religion. I don't recommend anyone to watch this but I've seen worse. Not the best and not the worst. It has no full frontal nudity. If you are a homosexual male, really bored with nothing else better to do, you might enjoy this movie but even if that's the case you will not enjoy it very much.
