Works very well. Tends to run out a couple of weeks early
Edited: I love this thing. The concept is simple and yet undiscovered until now. Installation was easy and the system keeps the bleach out of the tank where it could damage the seals and sent it directly to the bowl. I had a couple of times where I had to brush the bowl but the problem was above the water line (very hot summer, lots of evaporation?), but we're talking 2 times in 3 months and barely any need. The 3 month life expired 2 weeks before I changed the cartridge, so the Kit lasted longer than promised. (Caveat: My wife and I are the only residents in the house, so larger families probably have more flushes/month). Since then I've changed it twice and I find that the refills run out a couple of weeks earlier than promised and I have to clean the bowl maybe once a week for the last 2. Small accumulations at the waterline. However, I like the thing so much that I'll just adjust the change out to 2.5 months rather than 3 I have one installed in the upstairs/guest bathroom that gets little use, so I'll edit this when I need to change it. With relatively no use, it could go for a year. I'll let you know. Edited: Still on the original equipment in an almost unused toilet - on it's 10th month - so that alone is worth the cost of the device. I'll change that one out (just because) at the 1 year mark (lol) Thank you, Flowmaster. Job well done.,

MAINTAINS a clean toilet for 3-4 months except for Mansfield toilets
I installed 4 of these this past June in my home and my parents' home. These are replacements for older Kaboom toilet cleaning system that started to leak (again) The design and the quality of the plastic on this Fluidmaster system is MUCH better than what I had been using. I did get 4 months use on one of the toilets, another is still going on 4 months into the 5th month so how long they last will depend on how many times you flush them and maybe how many gallons of water each flush uses too. Mine are 1.6GPF American Standard and there are 2 people in the home. If you have more people, they may not last as long, but they are still worth it though!! I did not take a brush to either of my toilets once during this time. I did not have to as they were CLEAN and I have a water softener which helps too. You DO have to scrub your toilets clean before using this. This system will MAINTAIN a clean toilet. Do not put this into a dirty toilet and expect it to clean the dirty toilet for you. Being one of my cartridges is done, I will attempt to take it apart and 'refill' it myself with my own bromine tablets. IMO, it's worth a try being I already have a spent cartridge and some bromine. Updates on that coming soon. If my own attempt at rigging a refill does not work out, Fluidmaster refills are cheap enough for a 2 pack which would last 3+ more months in my home. For my father's toilets (Mansfield) that are 1.6gpf, one cartridge almost lasts him 1 month. BUT, his toilets use way more water than they state, they are filthy, inefficient and impossible to clean toilets that are poorly designed and should be banned from American households. There are 2 people in his household so the reason they don't last long there is because of the crappy toilets. Update on me opening these cartridges.... I was able to, but I can't find bromine the correct size to fit inside. Clorox is too big. I don't mind buying the refills for my home, but for my dad's inefficient and poorly designed Mansfield toilets, we have him on subscribe and save with monthly deliveries. It does not bother him to spend $10ish a month to keep his water wasters.

Useful to help keep the toilet clean.
The dispenser is easy to install. The cartridge is easy to plug into the dispenser (although you should wear gloves). It dispenses bleach into the bowl with each flush. The dispenser is connected to the refill tube and feeds the bowl from the overflow pipe. The advantages of this over tablets inserted in the tank is that the bleach won't just dissolve over time but rather by each flush. It also doesn't expose the tank parts to bleach (bleach in the tank itself can damage the parts, causing them to need replacement way too early). I had previously used the blue cartridge versions for this, which is basically a soap. Those don't work well for me anymore (they seem to have changed the formulation) so I switched to the bleach ones. They do have a pretty distinct bleach smell which is a little strong but not too bad. There is not a dye in the bleach cartridges, so the lack of the smell is how you know you need to check/replace them. Bleach cartridges seem to work well in keeping the toilet clean. The bleach in the water keeps organics and bacteria from growing.

Too expensive - specially the refill, but works like wonder. This is not suitable for use in Indian Flush system as the overflow pipe is usually not available and I had to modify the same to get it working.

This kit is not readily available in Canada, but fortunately Amazon vendors sell it at a reasonable markup (considering it is shipped from the USA). It's an excellent automatic toilet cleaning system as it does not damage the rubber seals in your tank with chlorine (my Toto tank actually has an explicit warning stating not to use chlorine cleaners). It "splices" inline with fill hose so that the bleach solution bypasses the tank altogether (via the overflow tube) and fills your bowl after each flush while the tank is refilling. Installation is very simple, and the bracket is plastic so you can trim it to fit your tank if necessary. Ensure your tank lid seats fully to reduce flushing and filling noise. It functions as intended but I cannot assess effectiveness yet - I am hoping it either stops or slows the growth of the pink bacteria ring. There is a faint chlorine smell when you first lift the lid, but nothing too offensive IMO. The water level in my bowl has not changed. 3 month update: True to their word, the original chlorine tablets have completely dissolved after 3 months. This is on the primary toilet for two adults. I have not had to clean my toilet for the same period, and there is no pink bacterial growth whatsoever. This is an excellent upgrade as I was cleaning our toilet every 2-3 weeks due to the ring of pink bacteria. Refills: The replacement cartridges are not readily available in Canada but you can replace the tablets yourself with 1" tablets. To gain access, you can pry the bottom cap up off the cartridge with a folding utility knife and tap or pull the cap off. The original cartridge contains three 26x16mm (ie 1”) tablets and each weighs 11-12g (~34g net weight). The tablets contain DCDMH, boric acid and chlorine per the package label. However, the SDS for the refills indicate that the tablets used to contain 7-13% chlorine (89415-87-2), 40-70% BCDMH (16079-88-2) and 15-40% DCDMH (118-52-5). Fluidmaster likely originally used this chlorine-bromine blend because pure chlorine may be too acidic and/or odorous, but switched to chlorine only tablets due to costs? Regardless, for cheap refills, I purchased Azur Spa bromo tabs (~$50/1.8kg or 60c each). These tablets are 30x18mm (1.2") and weigh 20g. To fit these into the cleaner, cut the "lid" off the cartridge, remove the foam piece, and drop three tablets directly into the holder (instead of refilling the cartridge) - see photos. You now have 60g of bromine (compared to 34g of chlorine) that should last longer, be less acidic and smell less. Flow has not been restricted and there does not appear to be any downsides to this, but I will provide an update if that changes. Hope this helps.

Great product, keeps the toilet clean a longer period of time. However, the bleach refills are very expensive, twice the price, compared to the blue refills. And currently only one seller has them.

Bought two one for upstairs and one downstairs all the water runs though the tablets and helps keep the toilet clean. This is not a replacement for cleaning your toilet, you still need to clean it.
