i bought this for guidance into gnosticism
gnosticism doesn't coincide with magic. there is also much to learn spiritually. this book however focuses away from any particular values and relies on God being a pervert that waits for us to orgasm in order to create in our lives. you must also keep yourselves with women who's lady parts function correctly, otherwise dump your wife and leave your kids for a new downstairs. no i'm not kidding. i was utterly dismayed that this would be the first book anyone would think about when speaking of gnosticism. furthermore, it's more based around eastern religion using the term yani for those lady bits. original gnosticism is focused primarily around christianity. this is not a good read.

Scholars need apply...lots of great stuff but too erudite for me...
I'll be honest. Way over my head. I couldn't get into it though I desired the knowledge it contained. I ended up going with a less dense book. If you have a eidetic memory or reading comprehesion on steroids, this seems a well crafted tomb, but it's NOT for those with average reading level in my opinion.

Unbelievable!!
Wonderful exposition of the secret teachings drawn from the ancient arcanum arcanorum of the Gnostics. Full of interesting and useful insights and much knowledge of practical significance to the modern reader. Basically indispensable.

A wonderful source of inspiration
I got this book about 2-3 years ago, and at first I could not understand much of it, but Samael does a wonderful job at explaining and at revealing the meaning behind this ancient text. There are parts that I keep coming back to, and sometimes I just simply open this book and get the inspiration that I need. It's like it was waiting for me to open it to be revealed, even though I may have read some sentences over and over but did not 'get it' then!In a way, it reminds me of some of my favorite other books: The Flight of the Feathered Serpent and Dhammapada (Shambhala Pocket Classics) . Both of these 2 gems are amazing spiritual resources. it's like special friends and guides talking to you. Like the Pistis Sofia, you can just open them anywhere and get so much out it.Amazingly, these ancient texts carry so much meaning even in our modern society. The Pistis Sofia is most definitely a book to have and to actively read and try to understand if you are indeed interested in spirituality.

A REVELATION
For anyone whose mind is open to the fact that there are many more gospels than the orthodox 4 "canonical" gospels. This is a searching revelation that there is more to christianity than the sanitised version that survived the "council" of NICEA.
