Meal Replacement, In a Bar
I've tried a lot of supplements and snacks to try to replace a meal... this is the best bet.I'm a student on a budget. I worked out that if I buy these it's about $2 a meal. That's if I don't buy a drink or something else with it. That's 1- 2 bars for a day of classes, $4 bucks a day, c'mon, that's A HUGE SAVINGS, even over cheapo fast food, and these are nutritious. Eat a good home meal (learn to cook guys, I did, saves money and tastes great, and it's good for impressing the ladies) at least once a day, and you're set.The benefit of these is that they actually fill you up, not just with fiber as some brands that claim meal replacement do. Some meal replacement things are nutritionally lacking, they fill your belly but you're technically starving cause your deficient in nutrients. These are very well made and nutritionally sound, especially for younger folks like me who need more protein in their diets, if you're older this is still good, but you generally need less protein in your diet. The taste is great too, a little sweet with some of their flavors, but overall not overpoweringly so like some brands. My favorite is the cookie dough one, it goes down the easiest too, feels like it digests the easiest as well.Enjoy, this is a smart purchase.

Bigger and heavier than your typical food bar
I needed meal replacement bars for work on those days when overtime is unavoidable and tried the Super Cookie Crunch flavor. I found that these were a great way to satiate my appetite while tasting pleasantly good at the same time. The flavor reminds me of Oreo cookies without the sweet cream filling, which is not bad for a protein-oriented bar. They recommend drinking 8oz of water or other liquid with this meal replacement bar...what I found to be quite tasty together was this bar and vanilla soy milk, which gave it a more sweeter resemblence to the good ol' Oreos dunked in milk. Plus you get even more protein from the soy.Anyway, I just thought I'd share the Nutrition Facts. Keep in mind this is not labeled as an energy bar, and that the bar itself weighs a whopping 100g, that of which 32g is protein. I don't feel hungry for quite some time after consuming one. On the label, it says No Artificial Flavors and No Artificial Colors. My box of bars have an expiration date of 30JUN2013, almost a complete year of shelf life.Nutrition FactsServing Size 1 Bar (100g)Amount Per ServingCalories --------------410Calories from Fat -----130% Daily Value*Total Fat -------------14g 22%Saturated Fat ---------6g 31%Trans Fat -------------0gCholesterol -----------5mg 2%Sodium ----------------410mg 17%Potassium -------------410mg 12%Total Carbohydrate ----41g 14%Dietary Fiber ----------3g 13%Sugars ----------------26gProtein ---------------32g 64%Vitamin A -------------30%Vitamin C -------------30%Calcium ---------------20%Iron ------------------25%Vitamin E -------------30%Thiamin ---------------35%Riboflavin ------------35%Niacin ----------------30%Vitamin B-6 -----------30%Folic Acid ------------35%Vitamin B-12 ----------30%Biotin ----------------35%Pantothenic Acid ------30%Phosphorus ------------35%Iodine ----------------30%Magnesium -------------10%Zinc ------------------40%Copper ----------------60%In terms of texture, I would say the word "crunch" is from what seems to be rice-krispies and is nothing like the crunch you get from peanuts or granola bars. My opinion would be that its like a thick, Oreo/Graham cracker crust from a pie. The thin layer of chocolate on the bottom is quite tasty, and, the vanilla layer on top has a bit of taffy consistency, but also tasty nonetheless. All in all, everything comes together quite nicely. I would recommend this bar. I just wish the saturated fat content was lower.

One of the best-tasting high-protein bars yet
I wrote a positive review of another flavor from Met-Rx's "Colossal" line of protein/meal replacement bars recently (look under my other reviews), and much of what I said applies to this flavor as well, with the exception that -- in my opinion, at least -- this one is even better. For anybody who has "cut their teeth" (no pun intended) on certain other types of high-protein bars, in a blind taste test, it might be difficult to tell the difference between said bars and, you know, a rubber tire. Well, maybe that's not entirely fair. The tire probably has more flavor.I've been eating various kinds of "nutritionally engineered" bars for many years, and I quickly learned that they often aren't the best-tasting things on Earth, nor the easiest to get down without acquiring jaw cramps along the way. Which, to be completely fair, is no shocker; the reason a regular candy bar tastes so much better is closely related to the reasons why it's so much worse for you. And as far as my amateur knowledge of the relevant culinary biochemistry is concerned, the chewiness is a fairly predictable result of the high protein content -- which is a large part of what makes these so desirable. But some rogue vendors are out there challenging the status quo and proving that a "scientifically designed" bar actually can be, well, enjoyable to eat. Met-Rx is one such rebel. That's not to say I like every Met-Rx bar I've tried, but some are very good, and the "Super Cookie Crunch" flavor is the best I've had. It's not even remotely chewy. How they accomplished this -- while cramming 32 grams of protein into the bar -- is beyond me, but I'm not complaining.Like other bars in the "Colossal" line, Super Cookie Crunch has two main components (the "body" of the bar and its topping) and hence two separate flavors. In this case, the bar delivers a decent blast of moist-yet-slightly-crumbly chocolate, along with a sweet creaminess from the topping. The topping is somewhat firm, but if you close your eyes, you can almost envision yourself eating a chocolate cream cheese muffin. Well, like I said, "almost."Nothing like this is ever going to be as satisfying as a fully decadent dessert, but considering the balanced formulation of this bar, it does quite well for itself in the taste/texture department. Of course, this balance also implies a substantial amount of sugar; but if you're active and eat these after a hard workout (like I do), you can't go wrong. My only real criticism is the same with all such bars: they are very expensive! (And that's the only factor costing this bar a full 5-star rating from me.) But it's not just Met-Rx; everything in this market is overpriced. I have to wonder if it really costs that much to make these bars, or if these companies are milking extra cash from the "scientifically formulated, good-for-you" image. If you buy these on sale, however, you can score a respectable deal.
