Smaller Size Than My Last Order
Just like everything else, Charcoal Companion has reduced the sampler size packages significantly. When I ordered these in 2014 the packages were heavier gauge aluminum and didn't fall apart. The containers were larger by length/width/depth. Most notably the depth of the package has been reduced. What a rip off. Won't be purchasing again.

Nice variety, just realize they aren't very large (if you read the description you'll realize that). Depending on your smoker you may need to break some of the pieces down a little bit as some can be a little too large (not a big deal). Love this set as it gave us an idea of different flavors without having to buy bigger packages. Now we know exactly which ones we want to go out and buy.

Great Sampler for smaller smokers
I, like many reviewers here, hadn't previously smoked foods with different woods. I also didn't want to go and buy a large bag—i would never go through it all. I have a handy little pressure-cooker/smoker combo, and it uses 3-4 chips at a time. I smoke foods at least twice a month and this will last me a good long time, and takes up so much less space than a larger bag would. As for the quality of the wood itself, it's great—good smoke and it's consistent from use to use. Definitely recommend to those new to smoking, and especially if you have a smaller device.

Wouldn’t buy again.
Packaging is awful. It comes in small aluminum tins and they were crushed inside the amazon box and the chips were all mixed up. Sizing was much smaller then expected. Not enough for 1 use per wood. Would not buy again.

Works great on charcoal grills because you can use the flame and hot spots to get the smoke you need for the best results to to smoke your foods, gas grills are out of the question unless you have experimented with these types of chips before you have to expose your burners to ignite the chips enough to get your smoke but never enough smoke because the chips have to be wet and they dry out real fast then ignite and just turn to ash that you don't need.

Wood Chips Add Flavor
I'm cooking on my mini weber every weekend and wanted some smoke flavor accasionally. I find that these fit the bill. The chips tend to be small which is ok for my use. I found that I really don't like mesquite flavor. The apple is not very strong. Alright, but not wonderful. Probably will try something else next time.

Loved that it was a variety and we got to test flavors out.

not too much
I have used this a few times now on tomahawk steaks and large cuts of beef.I use a small smoke box that site over gas burner, with the meat on the indirect side of the bbq.The first time I did it I kept refilling the smokebox every time the smoke stopped (3 times over a 90 mins smoke), the meat tasted amazing, but on the latter times I have only used one lot of chips and the flavour was still amazing but less intense.I don't think adding too much is a bad thing, but I think it does get to the point where the meat just doesn't take in any more flavour, but play around with it.

Nice strong smoke flavour.
Nice big bag of wood chips or various sizes that produce a nice strong smoke flavour to your foods.I used on some cumberland sausages in my BBQ kettle, I soaked the chips overnight in water and a little whiskey and popped a few chips on my hot coals as my sausages were cooking putting on the lid to trap the smoke. After 20 mins the sausages took on a Smokey colour and I then put them over the hot coals to finish grilling them.A little of these chips go a long way and the end result was a delicious strong Smokey charcoal flavour.

Brisket never tasted so good.
I have used many types of bbq but have been using a gas burner for some time.my one complaint was the lack of smoky flavours when slow cooking cuts of beef and pork, but this is no longer the caseI use a 'charcoal companion' chip holder than sits between the grills, and soak the chips in beer/wine/water depending on the meat, and the flavours created are brilliant. it gives a purist taste with the convenience and control of gas.
