Instinct: The Power to Unleash Your Inborn Drive

First I need to clarify two things. One-I am not an Oprah fan at all. I've tried because so many of my closest friends and family member love her, but for some reason she grates on my nerves. Two-I am not religious. In the slightest. I would say that I am spiritual and I do believe in God but I am not religious.So with that being said I was shocked when flipping through the channels I saw Oprah's life class and Reverend Jakes and something he said hit home with me. I didn't know who he was but even when he made reference to religion that didn't stop me because what he had to say was powerful. When the show was over I came to Amazon to order the book and had it the next day when it was released. I read it in one sitting and while a lot of what he said on the show is the same in the book there is also more. He tells you directly that he cannot tell you how to solve your problems or fix your life what he can tell you is what he believes and what he sees in his work. While I loved the book I didn't love his constant reference to all the celebrity dropping that he did (not by name but rather by things like, "A famous Hollywood actress") but even with that being said I still gave it five stars.The main idea of the book is simple-step back and take a look at your life. What things do you do, what things do you believe, simply because you've been told to? We are all brainwashed (in my line of work we call it enculturation) and it's how we're raised. It's what tells us to look both ways before we cross the street, it's what tells us that we're supposed to grow up, go to college, get married, have kids, retire and move to Florida. It's what society and our families do to help us fit into the place where we are born.But here is the question-how much of that has made you who you are? Or changed who you really are? If you stopped listening to society and the people around you and learned to listen to yourself again, who would you be? What would you want your life to look like? If you peeled away all the messages that you've been receiving for your entire life what would YOU want? Jakes tries to give you tips on how to find the answers to those questions, how to learn to listen to your instinct again. Well done and a great place to start the path to a true you.

This is very enlightening one thing that sticks out to me is God will provide for what He has called for. This is a must read because often times we look for external clues of what our next move should be when we should be looking within ourselves. We are an answer as TD Jakes said in 12/31/2016-1/1/2017 New Year service. We are our answers to the questions we ask. Also the importance of diligently seeking Him and being connected to God. I love how Jakes uses his vacation and just overall real life examples it's not all biblical if that's the word I'm liking for or religious so to speak it's just real. Lots of "ah ha!" moments 😌

Honestly as always TD Jakes Thomas Dexter Jakes is always insightful and very well spoken, but I think his book Destiny kicks this one’s butt. Destiny is off the hook radical life-changing, I think it should be mandatory reading in every public high school on earth. Instinct is in site full but it does not hold a candle to his book Destiny which I think is absolutely groundbreaking.

After reading the preview of the first chapter I knew it was exactly the type of knowledge I needed to encourage me. Very few people are gifted to uplift others to be their personal best. I loved the book for its simple approach to a misunderstood concept within religious circles.Without addressing it, this book shows the difference between God's design and God's Spirit, both of which are necessary to have abundant life. This book is perfect for everyone as a gift. Whether someone needs encouragement, or to assist young people with their pursuit of their dreams. It is also not religious in language but those who are Christian will get a wider view of God's love as a Creator, who gives all of us gifts.

TD Jakes has a powerful presence that translates to the pages of his books. When you read Instinct, your God-given, natural ability is stirred up within you. It almost makes you want to race a cheetah, but I digress. If you have had any doubt about why you are on this earth, what you are made for, or why did God even bother to make you in the first place, this is the perfect book.

My 3rd 10/5 Stars for 2014.Sometimes there is a book that comes to a person that feels as though the author was speaking directly to them at just the time they needed it. That was Instinct. The SECOND I saw this book on Dr. Phil, it was in my Amazon cart. I started it the morning it downloaded and finished it by the end of the day. I have it targeted to read a second time.This book was AMAZING! I love feeling like a book is speaking to me and TD Jakes did this. There were numerous things that I took away from this book.Although the author is a spiritual leader, the book wasn't heavy on God and overly preachy. It made it easier for me to listen to the very important points that he was attempting to get through.Well written, I was able to sink into it and it flew by.My only regret is that I didn't purchase this book as a print copy to take notes/highlights.

This book was a timely book for me to read. It was not a fast read for me. I had to take my time reading it in order to fully comprehend what I believe God is speaking in my life. Thank God for T. D. Jakes!There were times reading this book where I wished that I could call Bishop Jake's up just to hear more about his experiences following instinct.I found this book to be rewarding.

I am in the middle of reading this book Instinct by Jakes. Very powerful, highly inspirational & challenging book, that gets you off "park" & into "drive" Just what I needed at this season of my life. I know there is more in me to do more in life.

This is a book that everyone who wants to tap into the core of who they are and maximise their lives should read. So insightful and eye-opening, a must read.
