As Close To Perfection as You Can Get
I am a tea lover. I have traveled to China and had tea in various tea houses, including the big government run establishment in Beijing. I even ordered tea directly from China for many years - different types and flavors. I've been to and had tea from different parts of the world - Kenya and Sri Lanka included. My go to brand is Dilmah tea bags - they are perhaps the best for travel since the tea bags contain real loose-leaf tea and the flavor is superb. Not inexpensive though, they are shipped directly from Sri Lanka and that is the only problem if you run out of supply as I did recently. Which led me to this. In my desperate search for a suitable alternative to my favorite Dilmah, I tried many different ones I have at home - but nothing really was good enough. Then I thought I would make another attempt here on Amazon. My previous experience with tea, especially Darjeeling ordered here has not been good. I recall the best tea I have ever had was in person at the Makaibari Estate in Darjeeling and it was the First Flush they grow there. Since then I have tried to get it many times, but it has never been the same. Reading the reveiws here of different brands I was not very hopeful until I came across Vahdam. The key with all teas, especially First Flush is freshness. It cannot survive handling at various intermediaries. True to the promise, it came in a vacuum-sealed pack with a very convenient sealable bag with a peel-off label to use with it. The leaves do look fresh and are somewhat soft. The color of the brew is the typical bright and golden that you expect. The aroma is heavenly. For aficionados, First Flush when made from fresh leaves fills the room with its beautiful bouquet. The Vahdam product is not quite there, and that is again to be expected, no matter the source, once it is packed and stored, the tea does lose some of its aromatic qualities. It therefore has to be consumed as quickly as possible. My sample was probably harvested in March of 2023 and I am having it nine months later, so it is not going to be the same as fresh tea. The taste has that delicate, fruity, sweet quality with a long finish. I found notes of tulsi even, but that is part of its complex nature. This is not a tea to be had in a hurry. When brewed properly and served in delicate china, it is truly one of the gastronomic wonders of the world. All I can say is that this product is as close to perfection as you can get from something ordered online and received in two days. Harvested eight thousand miles away, the fact that I can savor its delightful flavor sitting here in New York is a marvel in itself. The packaging is very nice, with a note from the owner of the estate. He does mention the idea of giving back to the farmers and workers who produce these wonderful things and I do hope he lives up to his promise because the worker at a tea estate is the lowest participant in this chain and it is really a tedious and back-breaking job that she performs, in order to bring us a little bit of paradise. Now go and order some of this heavenly nectar.

Lovely first flush darjeeling
I've really been enjoying this first flush darjeeling! I was very impressed by the way it came vacuum sealed, with a provided sealable bag and a sticker to label it once you cut the vacuum packaging. The tea smells delicious straight out out of the bag, dark and rich, with an almost tobacco-y note that was delightfully new to me. When brewed, it's a beautiful light gold and the fragrance blooms into a top rate darjeeling, with the flowery muscatel notes so distinct to it. It has the smooth, light flavor that I went looking for when second flush or other darjeelings just didn't cut it. I expect to enjoy many more cups of this, and I'll definitely be back for more when I run out.

Good find
Good quality, and packed very well so the flavor is retained.

rich with flowery notes
Very tasty tea with rich and flowery notes. I liked the equality, the size is classic and they put a plastic bag with a zip to put the tea in to avoid leaving it open. I'd say one of the best in this price segment.

Decent tea but has a lot of dust
Unfortunately this was not the Darjeeling tea I have been hoping for. I’ve been searching for a first flush Darjeeling tea that is delicately floral and mellow in flavor. But this tea just fell flat. I have tried brewing with the instructions they recommended as well as experimenting on my own. The flavors are lacking in floral. Another issue I have with this tea is that there’s a lot of powder and dust in the leaves. Typically I would not find this with high quality leaves. But overall, it is a decent cup of tea

A fragrant, delicate brew.
Good aroma when sniffing out of the bag, rich, black and fruity. For a black tea, the leaf color was greener than I had expected. I had found suggestions for brewing a first flush Darjeeling that recommended lower temperatures than the vendor suggests. I compromised by steeping at 190F for 2 minutes, using a silicone infuser. At about the 1 minute mark, I opened the infuser and dumped the leaves because the color in the cup wasn't changing. Allowing the leaves to unfurl properly helped, so I just poured through a strainer into a second cup. In future, I'll just brew in a teapot. Flavor was delicate with fruity, almost citrusy notes. That said, I don't think the longer, hotter steep would hurt this tea. I did a second steep at 212F for three minutes and the aroma backed off a bit. I think 190F with a 3 -5 minute steep might be a good compromise with this one. (Don't be afraid to experiment: lower brewing temperatures may reduce bitterness in your tea.) Then there's the packaging! Each tea came in a dark green cardboard box containing a vacuum sealed aluminum lined bag of tea, a handy mylar zip lock bag to decant it into for freshness, a label to put on the mylar bag with the name of the tea (since of course you bought more than one!) and brewing instructions for the best results. Also included are a glossy little pamphlet about the company (again with brewing suggestions), and a 10% off next purchase card. Not to mention Inspirational Tea Quotes printed inside the box. Yes, this is absolutely designed to be appealing, to convince you of quality and to anoint you with the esteem owed to a genuine teaphile, to evoke posh English drawing rooms and the best bone china and milk and one lump or two and do please buy more of our tea!

I almost never leave reviews (no time!) but for this wonderful tea from wonderful people it's an absolute pleasure. I wanted a premium product and that's exactly what I got. They ship the tea vacuum-packed and provide a zip-lock bag for storage after opening, and even a sticker to show what's in the bag: amazingly thoughtful! The special feature of Darjeeling is that you can steep the leaves 3 or possibly 4 times... I use a 'tea ball': they are not expensive and are very easy to use. The second and third steepings give the best flavour, so as you enjoy the first cup, you just know that the next two will be even better! Depending on the size of cup, you can push on to a fourth. This makes a premium Darjeeling much better value than the price per 100g suggests! Best of all, Vahdam are a business local to their product: buying from them directly supports the economy in the tea-growing region throughout the supply chain. Love it, love it, love it.
