M3 Rivet Nut Tool Tip, Replacement Mandrel

I bought this to try with an existing crimp handle that they wouldn’t at all fit. The next day I ordered the proper tool to use it with. I inserted the first steel (not stainless) fastener in some 20 gauge sheet metal pulled slowly but deliberately on the crimp handles, and had them suddenly let go with the feel and sound of the fastener stripping. Tried a second fastener from a different batch (some came with the tool and I ordered extra), and had the same result. I switched to the die that came with the new handle, and it worked like a champ.I looked at this insert, and could see just a little bit of shiny metal where the threads let go. I also noticed the threads are really shallow, and it was really obvious when comparing with the new tool. In fact, I was able to use the fasteners that this set couldn’t compress using the new tool, with zero problems.

These break easily so be CAREFULL when using a rivnut gun. Practice on thin metal pieces first to figure out how much you should squeeze. My suggestion, buy 3. The first one you will break and you'll think it was bad or you just weren't careful. The second one will break because you are still applying pressure and still can't believe how easy it will break. The third one won't break because you'll move up to M6 because it is to expensive to keep replacing the M3. Good luck.
