great as expected
i paired this one with a bridge’s JB model (to complete the Hot Rodded set) on my epiphone lp standard. they now sound amazing, round and warm, very powerful with the gain on, and with a sweet sustain.

Wonderful, warm and versatile pickup.
I'll admit, I am more of a Fender guy but always wanted a Les Paul. I found a cheap Epi and decided to gut it and rebuild. I put this pickup in the neck and I am so impressed. It was had to adjust to the warm sounds of this humbucker compared to the Fender clean sound I was used to, but wonderful tones are plentiful. I love to roll the volume back just a hair and it really sounds great. Not only that, but if you add a little gain it can give you a fantastic gritty blues tone all the way to 70s rock distortion. It's not gonna do metal but I was surprised how versatile the pickup is. I paired it with a SD SH5 and I can get any sound I need out of this guitar. Quality pickups can be ridiculously priced these days so paying $100 for this pickup is an amazing value.

There's something about mahogany...
After doing my research and hearing all the hype about this pickup, I finally purchased one of these about a year ago. I put it in an alder Telecaster body that was finished with just hand rubbed poly. I had all the good electronics in it: CTS pots, a CRL switch, vintage cloth wire. I got it all wired in. I set it up, plugged it in and... I found it sterile and lifeless. Very clean, very well made, but I just really did not hear any character. I initially had it paired with an STK-T3B. I tried pairing it with a Little 59 Tele bridge pickup. It certainly helped because of the presence of the mids in the Little 59, but I still just sort of felt meh about the pickup. I tried a few other things - I also put it in an old Squier Tele Thinline with the Gibson scale neck and it still just was not the pickup for me. I was getting ready to sell the pickup when I decided to take an old Squier Classic Vibe Tele Thinline body (semi hollow) I had and convert it from single coils to humbuckers. I covered the SH-2N with a nickel cover (no wax) and placed it into the neck position. I complimented it with a nickel covered SH-4B (JB) in the bridge position. I do have a conversion neck on the guitar - it's the Gibson 24-3/4" scale as opposed to Fender's 25.5". I have to tell you - this has become my main guitar. I cannot put this thing down it sounds so nice. I really like both the neck only position and the middle position on the selector switch that combines the Jazz/JB. I think this thing just gets an awesome sound now. I play a lot of older jazz standards arranged for chord/melody and this setup REALLY does the trick. It's great all around: clarity in the highs (but not too bright), nice definition in the lows, and those gorgeous, gorgeous mids are now present again. I don't think the SH-2N will work for every guitar, but when you get the right combination of factors involved, this pickup is just divine =)

Good sound and value for the price
I purchased this to replace a non-working EMG pickup at the neck position of an ESP guitar where I did not want to install active pickups. It had a good tone by itself and also meshed well with the EMG bridge pickup. I can now use this guitar in some live shows. Installation was simple. A far improvement over the cleaner tones of the EMG pickup (before it stopped working).

Definitely elevates the tone of the guitar.
Perfect. Put this in my PRS SE.

Not Just for Jazz!
I think Seymour Duncan made a mistake naming the the "Jazz" pickup -- when I think jazz I think smooth hollow tones, and you can get that with this pickup, but with the tone knob turned up it is bright with great articulation, suitable for lots of different styles of music (just see the list of guitarists using this pickup in rock). I have a '59 in another guitar and love it, but wanted something a bit bright and clearer. Reviews that I read lead me to this pickup. It has very similar vintage sound to the '59 but with more highs and more definition, less muddy to my ears. I installed this in a Godin A6 Ultra Koa Extreme semi hollow hybrid guitar and it is working out great, highly recommended.

Would definitely buy again.
I'm a big fan of Duncan pickups in general. They have a great selection, good pricing, and I've never been disappointed when taking a chance and going off of their descriptions. I have the Jazz in the neck position of an Ovation Breadwinner (bolt-on, Mahogany neck and body) paired with a Duncan Hot P90 in the bridge. Getting my preferred balance between the two pickups was as simple as a half-turn of a few pole pieces. The tone is as described by Duncan: Medium-high output. Bright, sparkly high end (especially for a neck pickup) with a fat, bouncy bottom end. Great blend of articulation and warmth.
