The patented 360° self-rotating display can be used in any position, in either hand. The unit incorporates an intelligent backlit display sensing light levels, automatically turning the backlight on/off in varying light conditions. The motion-sensing sleep mode automatically turns the Thermapen 4 professional on/off when set down or picked up, maximising battery life - 3000 hours in normal use. The casing is washable and includes Biomaster antimicrobial technology that reduces bacterial growth and the ergonomic rubber seal minimises the risk of the ingress of water, dust or food. As well as being waterproof to IP67/67, it is still 'probably' the fastest reading contact thermometer on the market today . The true temperature of a product can be tested in just three seconds. The Thermapen 4 Professional incorporates a reduced tip, stainless steel, food penetration probe (Ø3.3 x 115 mm) that conveniently folds back through 180° into the side of the instrument when not in use.

A stunning piece of equipment!
I'd read many recommendations - this (and its ETI cousins) are true professional cooking thermometers - and bought one. It is an amazingly impressive piece of kit. I used to be a research scientist, and have used "proper" scientific instruments, including temperature measurement devices. This IS a proper scientific instrument - it's a proper thermocouple thermometer, with the thermocouple mounted right at the very tip of the probe - but it's built to be used in a busy, wet kitchen. Amazingly well thought through - the Thermapen 4's auto display rotation, auto sleep and auto backlight are brilliant "usability" touches - and well built. And it's ACCURATE and fast! I tried a proper ice bath check, and it read 0.0 deg C. Brilliant!

A bit pricey but meets the expectations. Very fast reading and a good temperature range. Knocked one star off for the price, it really shouldn't cost this much.

Get what you pay for.
Great piece of kit, far easier to use than the cheaper versions I’ve bought. Great service too: arrived two days earlier than expected!
