Best pencils
Ticonderoga are the best pencils because the lead is soft and the wood is quality (it doesn't splinter and sharpens clean). The erasers are sturdy too and do a great job. I'm a homeschooling mother, so I go through a lot of pencils. I would never use anything but this brand. The colors are great to assign colors to my kids so they're not fighting over them.

HIGHLY recommended, great quality, here's examples of why we think so:
We really love Ticonderoga pencils. We've been using them ever since my daughter started school, several years ago...back then all you could get was "boring colors", so we've always got these as our daughter's main pencils but got some of the cute "fancy looking" ones also, so she didn't feel left out when other kids had cooler pencils (lol). Each year, when she's had a lot of writing to do, or important tests, she's always made sure she had a Ticonderoga handy, because even she realized how much better they are. She was soooo excited to see these bright colored ones now & immediately had to open them when they arrived :-)Examples of why these are better than about any other pencil out there (that we've tried, over many years) :* the lead in the Ticonderoga is such good quality, leading to it laying down beautifully on the page each time, whether writing or drawing, less breakage while using, not having to stand at a pencil sharper for extended periods of time due to finding that the lead was falling out due to it already being broken inside the wood shell, & ability to get a beautiful point each time, quickly & easily, that actually lasts for a good while. You'll notice just the opposite in most other pencils that are bought just because they're "pretty".* the wood is actually a QUALITY, smooth wood...you don't get get painful splinters, lead broken prematurely due to wood breakage, very easy, smooth sharpening of pencil (which is huge to us, I can't STAND having to sharpen a pencil for ridiculous amounts of time due to the simple fact that the quality of the wood is poor, although I paid top dollar for what wa supposed to be quality material)* the lead is well centered inside the wood, which is important due to time you'll spend sharpening & issues with breakage.* about any of the pencils that have "cool designs" on them are just covered in a thin layer of plastic-like film, which tends to bunch up & cause issues with sharpening the pencil, plus it starts tearing off, which leads to a not-so-cool pencil (& more importantly, a disappointed child). With the Ticonderoga, it's quality painted wood, no surprises)

Ticonderoga Pencils
Ticonderoga Pencils are the best pencils. I am in education and love to have this brand of pencil on hand to use and loan the students. They always sharpen well which is important for students. I like all the new colors they have come out with too.

Nice - but Costly - Pencils
Ticonderoga pencils are known for being good pencils, but really - have you met many bad pencils?? I've never noticed their wood or lead to be superior to the generic or no-name brand pencils I've picked up at various discount or office supply stores. Personally I have stayed away from Ticonderoga pencils because of the black erasers sported by many of their pencils - those erasers never work, always leave black smears on my paper, and just seem to be a grainy mess. I was glad to see these have the regular pink erasers. The pencils are brightly colored and write well, however they are just painted with neon colors - so if you (or your kids) tend to bite pencils, the colors will chip off pretty quickly. I'm not sure they are worth the high cost, but I needed a large variety of different pencils for a piece of art I'm making. If I were only picking up pencils for school or around the house, I would go with some that are cheaper. I deducted one star for the cost of these. I always go back and forth on whether deducting a star for an item for price is fair - especially something like pencils. There are a lot of very similar options that cost less - it was my choice to purchase costly pencils. If I thought the price was too high why didn't I just purchase cheaper pencils?? I guess it would be one thing if the neon colors went all the way through the pencils or the lead was unbreakable or something...but these are regular old pencils. I decided to deduct the star from these because I feel they are overpriced for what you get.Bottom Line: These are nice pencils - the quality is good, the colors are vibrant, they stay sharp, and they have decent erasers. If I were to solely review these pencils, I would recommend them. That said, they are kind of expensive. I'm not aware of any special powers these pencils maintain - using them won't improve your writing or make you a math whiz - but they work well. Their higher-than-average cost is a deterrent in my opinion, especially if you are just seeking some regular #2 pencils. There are loads of cheaper options! However, if that isn't important to you then I would recommend these.
