Highly recommended for the new SL syllabus
While there is no one correct order for teaching a maths syllabus, I am a keen advocate of teaching from the start to the end of a book, when it does present topics in a suitable order. This saves putting excessive effort into producing schemes of work, but more importantly it allows both student and teacher to instantly get a reasonable idea of how much of the course has been covered, and how much remains to be covered. This book, which has been written for the new IB diploma standard level syllabus, may certainly be used in this manner. Like the HL book, which I have already reviewed, it is very well written, in that student friendly style that those familiar with the Edexcel books will recognise. Again, like the HL book, it offers lots of interesting investigations and asides, and the end of each chapter has a couple of TOK pages.Everything is well explained, with plenty of examples, well chosen exercises, and copious [good] use of colour. Students and teachers will also appreciate the GDC examples that use the modern TI-Nspire calculator: there is also a chapter, at the back of the book, on its use, and a chapter on prior learning that many students will find useful. Finally I should mention the CD, which among other things contains the whole book and instructions for using Casio and TI-84 calculators.I highly recommend this book to anyone, teacher or student, embarking on the new 2012 maths SL syllabus.

I.B. Math S.L. new Oxford book
First delivery of this book arrived with a shattered CD, but second time was fine. The book is great. Don't know why they put the worked solutions to questions in text book on the internet, but not on the accompanying CD! I'm an I.B. Standard Level Maths teacher and I've already recommended it to my students as it is so much better than the out-of-date text book provided by the school!
