Imagination, artistic & quality.
The fantastic imagination of Lovecraft takes you on an adventure, intertwined with the fear of the unknown, & enhanced with the beauty & scope of Baranger’s artwork. The book’s size & quality of it’s materials definitely adds to the reading experience.

Great Book given no love by Amazon
I really like this version of Call of Cthulhu with it's beautiful artwork by Francois Baranger. This is why I've given it a top score of five out of five. It's a large book although quite slim. But the art is where this book truly shines. Baranger's artwork is fantastic and is some of the best Mythos-related work you'll find anywhere. As a result this has to be a must have for fans of this genre I reckon. However, buyer beware! The first book I received was poorly packaged by Amazon. Placed in a large box with just a bit of paper thrown in (shown in the pic), which did the book's corners no favours as it could slide around easily. But this was not the reason I asked for replacement. That was because the first page was damaged. Some days later I received a replacement, which was good, but this was also just as poorly packaged. Thankfully it was undamaged, apart from slight scuffed corners, but nothing much to fret about. The dust cover was covered in sticky stuff though, as if whoever packaged it had been eating sweets and had mucky fingers. Thankfully this did clean off, although it wasn't as easily done as I'd like and not something I think I should have to do when I buy a book.Note - I also bought the At the Mountains of Madness version of this series from Amazon. I just received it this morning, sent in a flimsy envelope with two of the book's pages ripped at the corners. This will also be getting sent back. Hopefully the replacement isn't damage also.Due to these experiences I think I'll be buying books from elsewhere in future.

Absolutely stunning
This has to be the perfect way to read Lovecraft's most famous story, the artwork is just....wow, it's beautiful. The tale itself is a classic and rightly so, it's one of HPL's best works, and the artwork matches it, really bringing the whole thing to life. It's not a graphic novel, but for some reason I found myself reading the thing almost as if it was new to me even though I've read CoC multiple times and listened to audio versions of it many times too.The author sells signed prints of some of the artworks included here and I loved the book so much I've ordered one for myself. I honestly can't recommend this book highly enough - if you are a fan of Lovecraft this is absolutely essential given how low the price is.I've also bought the two Mountains of Madness books and was VERY happy to see on the author's Instagram page that he's working on The Dunwich Horror next! Why are you still reading this review? Buy the book, and fall in love with HPL's CoC all over again (insert Kenneth Williams GIF here).Steven A. McKay, author of "Knight of the Cross"

A must buy
I have both this and At The Mountains of Madness (part 1) and they are quite stunning examples of how well shorter works like this can be brought to life. It probably even helps if you have read the books previously as just text but don't worry if you haven't, just don't be tempted to skip ahead to look at the illustrations. This isn't a comic book but the origenal text with accompanying double page illustrations which given Lovecrafts writing style of thoughts over dialogue makes huge sense. The paintings are something else, from an artist with a clear appreciation of the source material and incredible skill. He knows just how much detail to show and how much to leave to the imagination and picks out just the right image from each few paragraphs. I can't wait for more.

Beautiful artwork
This book is just stunning. The artwork captures the atmosphere of the Lovecraftian world brilliantly. I will definitely be getting more. This is great just as a collectors piece to flip through now and again

Fantastic Entry to HP Lovecraft
As a first time reader of HP Lovecrafts work I was recommended to give this one a try since the illustrations complement the language used.Absolutely worth it!

A review of the illustrated book Call of Cthulhu
I stumbled upon Francois Baranger's work in "The Dunwich Horror" so when I saw "The Call of Cthulhu" it was an easy decision to buy it. This coffee table sized book is atomspheric in its art and captures the essence of Lovecraft's story. If you're a fan of H.P. Lovecraft's work then I can easily recommend this book
