Gordon Ramsay's Home Cooking: Everything You Need to Know to Make Fabulous Food Review: Honest to goodness, food that WOWs! - I didn't know until after I bought this book and read other reviews that this cookbook has essentially a companion cooking tv series that aired in the UK under the same name as the UK version of this cookbook--Ultimate Cookery Course. He really breaks everything down so easy, so understandable so that you feel like I can really take on these recipes and his food and do it justice. Having been an avid GR fan for years now, and having indulged in eating at two of his restaurants, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try to challenge myself to make some of his delicious food. I am just a homecook with no prior knowledge or formal training in the kitchen. I have never worked in the food industry in any capacity unless a 1-week stint at Starbucks counts. In fact, I didn't even start cooking much of anything harder than ramen and scrambled eggs until my mid-20's (and I'm on the verge of turning 30 now). The fact that I've been able to learn so much and elevate my own abilities simply by reading and following many of the tips Gordon's included in this book and on the tv series has been kind of a gamechanger for me. I used to eat out TONS, but there's really little need to do so (except for the occasional quick bite or the indulgent dining experience) when I can simply throw something together that's super flavorful and intensely yummy just by following Gordon's instructions. I've only tried a couple of the recipes out of this book so far, and though I have to make some substitutions here and there if I can't find a certain ingredient (and I live in an area where many culturally diverse foods would be fairly easy to track down, given the nature of ultra-picky/health-conscious/foodie Californian tastes). Each recipe has been a HIT! The boyfriend has loved each recipe, and I've basically been craving more of Gordon's Chile Beef Lettuce Wraps since I've had them. I've also been itching to make variations on his souffle... The point is--even if you don't consider yourself a MasterChef, this book is easy enough to follow. There's definitely a marked Middle Eastern/Indian and Asian influence throughout the book, and a whole section on cooking with spices/chilies, but be adventurous! Try them all! I probably will. Review: Cook book - Perfect book! There is a lot of recipes to choose from

Great Recipes that are easy to execute
First things first, I'm a huge Gordon Ramsay fan. Love his cooking, love his personality, and love his take on priorities in the kitchen. This is definitely one of the most valuable cookbooks I own. Every recipe in there is simple enough to execute well, but allows room for growth of technique that only improves the dishes over time. Basically - this is a cookbook that encourages you to grow as a home chef. The writing style is undeniably Gordon Ramsay, so much so, in fact, that I hear his voice and accent as I read the instructions. My best guess is that they had him make each recipe and "talk through it" and they simply transcribed what he said. This gives the book a nice conversational pace, and makes some of the recipes humorous enough to read that it elicits a chuckle or two. If you like simple cooking that tastes amazing and encourages you to refine your technique... this is definitely the book for you.

A real pleasure to both read and cook from!
After catching Gordon Ramsay's Cookery Course on BBC America I went searching to see if there was an accompanying book. I did find the British version but wasn't keen on purchasing it and having to convert all the measurements or figure out ingredient substitutions. So I just bided my time and lo and behold I was browsing Amazon one day and there it was. The US version due to be released that day! I immediately ordered it. Upon its arrival I pretty much read it cover to cover! Not only is it a good read and very well written, it's also a very attractive looking book with a nice layout and great photos. There are lots of nice little tips dotted throughout and the recipes are simple to follow. Unfortunately, when the book arrived I'd just had oral surgery and was rather restricted on what I could eat, so I couldn't really try out any of the recipes right away. I have since made several of the dishes with great results! I'm a fairly experienced home cook, but have found some of the techniques included here to be a revelation! There is nothing particularly difficult here--in fact most dishes are quite simplistic focusing on flavor, not flamboyance. This book is the antithesis of some of his television shows. It is simply and beautifully done without any hype or theatrics. Highly recommended!

Delicious recipes, but probably better for more experienced cooks
I ordered this for my 10-year-old son who is passionate about cooking. We found the information in introduction to be useful, especially for a budding young chef. There is a nice variety of recipes in this book and everything we have tried has been excellent. There are two main problems as far as I am concerned. First, many of these recipes use specialty ingredients that can be tough to find. When I think “home cooking” I think of classic dishes that use pretty common ingredients most well-stocked kitchens will keep on hand. For example, one recipe for steak tacos with wasabi mayo required several specialty ingredients for Asian cooking. We had to try three supermarkets before we found what we needed. Second, we have found that some of the instructions are a bit lacking in detail and/or don’t tell you the amount of a particular ingredient to use. A more experienced cook can figured things out, but a beginner would be baffled. All-in-all this is a great cookbook, but probably better for folks who have a bit of experience under their belt.

I LOVE this book! Ive seen many reviews saying that most of the stuff is to fancy to make for normal dinners, or that the ingredients are hard to come by, or that no one has time to make these, but honestly I make receipes from this book 4 to 5 times a week. Every thing has been super easy to make, ingredients were not hards to find at all (except the lamb, instead of using lamb I just use a different meat). As far as time, I have a 4 year old, a 3 year old, and a 7 month old and Im still able to make the recipes.
