Great Contribution for the Medical World!
What is Lichen planus? According to this book, "Lichen planus is a condition where rashes appear due to the inflammation of skin tissues. These rashes are usually small and many-sided, or polygonal, in shape. They may grow together and then turn into rough patches on the skin. They can appear on different parts of the body and can also occur in the lining of mouth or vagina".For other people including me, this skin disease is not so familiar. But with this book, I got to know some very important details about this disease like, what are the causes, the preventive measures, diagnosis, and the best part is how to treat it.I found out from this book that you may be at high risk of having Lichen planus if you have some certain disease like Hepatitis C or infection of the liver. So I can say, it is really important to take care of our liver to avoid the counter effects of some diseases. We know that liver is a very important part of our body which helps us remove harmful chemicals from our blood and fights infection. Thus, proper care for our liver will help us prevent this rare skin disease.JP Smithson did a great job making this book. He really wants to educate people who are not familiar with this disease to be aware of what it is and how to prevent it. This book can also help medical practitioners to treat their patients especially when they have the unfamiliar symptoms which are difficult to diagnose.Awesome job JP Smithson! This book is great... Definitely a good contribution to the medical world!Five stars for you! :D

a good book to have
Very informative. A good read. A good buy. I just wished it had more pics. Wished they were in colour. And wished it covered all the different variations of lichen planus.

Very little information and takes about 10 minutes to read. Save your money! You can receive just as much info on the Internet if not more.

Everything you need to know
It's great to see a book aimed at patients, rather than the medical profession. This book explains in clear simple English with images, all about Lichen Planus. The book contains a lot of information on the symptoms of Lichen Planus, with some photographs, so if you are unsure if you have Lichen Planus, this may be very useful, or perhaps you have been diagnosed with the condition and want to know other symptoms to be aware of.There are a lot of different variations of Lichen Planus and they are all documented here, with clear details about what it looks like and the area of the body that will be affected. There is a comprehensive chapter on the causes of Lichen Planus, and ways in which you can help prevent contracting the disease.I think the most helpful part of the book is the section that deals with what will happen when you visit the doctor. It goes into a lot of detail about the tests and procedures involved, and should be very useful for putting your mind at ease if you are nervous about your visit to the doctor. The book also comes with a section on where to find further information, support groups and websites for further reading.A really useful and comprehensive book.

This book is a joke!
I bought this Kindle edition for $13.79 and returned it 5 minutes later. This book is a joke. Besides what you can read in the "Look inside" preview there is hardly any useful content. Descriptions of lichen planus are most often 2-3 sentence long and they look like Wikipedia article stubs. There are maybe 3 descriptions that are longer (half page - 1.5 page long) but look like copied from Wiki or some other source with links at the bottom of the articles. The article I was interested in, "Lichen planus nails", was literally 2 sentences with the rest of the page blank. There is also a list of medical organizations of different kinds (1/3 of the book) and an appendix with different generic medical terms, like "coma". For me this book is a joke. Looks like the author copied some free material from the web and I don't really see any value added that would justify the price of this book. Spend thirty minutes with Google and with Wikipedia and you will have much more information than this book contains. PS. The book contains absolutely no illustrations contrary to what the cover may suggest.
