Non venomous
Once connected you can pick it up by the neck without hurting it. I advise talking to it nicely and not getting all up in its face. Makes me feel heard. Cons- if it doesn't feel the electricity, it becomes unresponsive and ignores you.

I gave it 2 stars without ever using it. While unboxing it, I discovered the front panel is covered in stains as if someone spilled coffee on it. I wondered if I was sent someones else's return. However, the packaging looked untouched. Could be just some mishandling of a factory worker's ramen noodles in Shanghai.I'll update this review once I've had a chance to put it to the test.Update - The stains were superficial. The radio performed great. My son has the same radio in his boat. We were able to communicate from about from 10 miles away from each other at Lake Powell - despite the many tall canyon walls. Good radio

Nice Radio
Small, easy to install and operate. Extra controls on the mic are handy. I have the boat parked in a pole barn. I'm using a 3db 4' mast. I set up the local radio, (wx) and it came in clearly with no static. Should be great on the water

I just got this and have not hooked it up ...
I just got this and have not hooked it up but it is not BLACK it is gray.. disappointing to say the least cuz I had a hard time deciding black or white and got the black as the rest of my electronics radios and such are black.. ok well just want to let folks know, and I see in the picture it is gray but advertised and sold as black.. i will update this review as I hook it up and test it but am giving it 5 stars because it is not the radios fault it was sold as black ..

Excellent radio
Installed quickly, NMEA 0183 wotks perfectly with Humminbird gps antenna. Super easy to operate, displays channel descriptions on screen, scans, great upgrade from my Standard Horizon Eclipse (which could not pick up gps coordinates from the Humminbird for some reason and therefore could not use the DSC feature.)

Good value and Reassuring to have on the Water.
Only complaint I have about the radio is that I can't remove the cord and handset which would be nice to help it last longer. Set up was a breeze and so was getting it set up for the emergency gps signaling and the nmmi number (or whatever it's called). I love having a VHF radio with me on the water, nice and reassuring. Any guest is told if something happens just press the emergency button.
