RWBY, BOOK #1: AFTER THE FALL

Fans of RWBY, this is a must-read. Author E.C Myers brings these “side characters” to life and into extremely well-developed, thoughtful, and delightful characters. The story is intriguing, true to the established world building, and cleverly shown from the perspectives of each character varying from chapter to chapter. The dynamics of the four main characters are considerate and exceptionally captivating, including well-appreciated backstory moments and flashbacks to events that happened within the show that tie together so flawlessly. An easy read, that takes you right into the world of Remnant with a thrilling story and detailed first glimpse at the intense environment and dangers of the desert kingdom of Vacuo. “After the Fall” is charming, heartfelt, fun, and inspiring.

I had feared that this would be badly written or would take away from the story of Team RWBY, however I was actually very surprised. While the writing is not top quality, it is still pretty good once you start getting into the story. The characters ere captured perfectly and built upon what can be seen in the show. Overall I would highly recommend this book even if you haven't seen the show it is based on (though its even better if you have).

RWBYに登場するココ、フォックス、ヴェルベット、ヤツハシがメンバーのTEAM・CFVY。 本編Volume3以降の彼らの活躍を書いたスピンオフ小説です。 ビーコンアカデミー崩壊後、ヴァキュオのシェイドアカデミーで訓練を続けていた、TEAM・CFVYのメンバーが、 モンスターグリムの襲撃を受けてる砂漠に囲まれた街の住民を守る為に、彼らが奮闘するストーリー。 物語の途中で書かれる、ビーコンアカデミー崩壊後のTEAM・RWBYとTEAM・CFVYの会話、 チーム決め試験の時のTEAM・CFVY結成の話、 試験終了後の打ち上げパーティー(?)時のTEAM・RWBYとTEAM・CFVYメンバーの出会いを書いた話などは、 アニメ本編で語られていない所で起こった物語を知ることができ、RWBYファンなら思もわずニヤリです。 また、アニメではセリフがほとんどないフォックス、ヤツハシのセンブランスについてと、彼らの活躍(2人共無口のように見えますが、小説ではちゃんと話します。)、チームリーダー・ココの苦手な物、アニメVolume2の野外任務後、ルビーとヴェルベットの会話で、ヴェルベットが元気のなかった理由が分かります。 その他、小説オリジナルのハンター・ハントレスの登場、特殊なセンブランスを持った人物、 この物語とアニメの時系列が最後で判明したりと、最後まで楽しめる作品でした。 小説は挿絵なしの約300ページの英語で書かれた本ですが、RWBY本編とTEAM・CFVYが好きなファンなら ぜひ、読んで欲しい作品です。
