Faeries a little bogged down
I was really looking forward to hearing this after seeing them live but it's all a bit repetitive really. They've gone a bit downhill since bringing in the brass and loosing the lead guitar but I still enjoyed them live. It just does not work for me on CD.

Great but not perfect
The Peatbog Faeries have long had an outstanding reputation as a live act and it seems bizarre that it has taken them so long to release a live CD. The result is excellent, but for me not perfect. The disk has been compiled from 2 recordings, both from 2008, whilst the band was promoting the `What men deserve to lose' album and this features heavily with approximately a third of the tracks drawn from it. Although a good album, I was not wholly convinced by the jazz influences and the prominence of the brass instruments. The centre piece of this album, is the 18 minute long `dancing feet set' which is made up of 6 dancing songs which includes the excellent `Oyster woman's rant' from the `Faerie Stories' record. So don't be fooled by the track listing, there are actually 16 tracks included on the CD not 11. My favourite moment is a wonderfully reworked version of `Folk Police' which rocks so hard you will not be able to control your feet, very embarrassing when listening on your iPod on the train to work in the morning.A wonderful 76 minutes of instrumental madness, but the CD and then get yourself along to a gig. You won't regret it.

Peatbogs have finally done it!
The Peatbog Faeries have finally produced a live CD - and was it worth waitinbg for? Absolutely!! Following on from the stunning 'Croftwork' and 'What men deserve to lose' CD's, they just keep on getting better. The fast, driven beats, the beuatiful melodies and the superb musicianship combine the pipes, fiddles, brass, percusion etc, into a maelstrom of sound. Go and see them live as soon as you possibly can - and if you aren't lucky enough to do so, then buy this CD, pop it in your machine, pump up the volume and clear some space - because you will not be able to stay still - so go on, dance the night away!
