Cultural bibles are fantastic and thinn everyone should have one. Also has archaeological aspects as well, and was considering buying one of those but would highly recommend.Great sections where it goes into detail on certain traditions etc. Well worth the money.

I own the standard size print version and wanted to have a version with a somewhat larger type font. That is exactly what this version provides. It is not the large print font that your grandmother uses. You might even think this is normal size and the standard size is what we might call condensed or small. The Bible itself is printed on very thin paper of high quality so that there is no ghosting from the back sides. I bought my original Cultural Backgrounds Bible as I found the extra information on the historical situation and cultural background added much to my understanding. Having lived in the Middle East for over 15 years I have appreciated more and more having an understanding of how the people at the time viewed evens, phrases and situations. We must not read the Bible as if it was written yesterday in our country. Yes, it provides guidance for today although we gain much more if we understand what is subtle or difficult for us to understand yet was blindingly obvious to people of the time. Yes it is somewhat large and heavy so you can not carry it on your commute incognito !

This great book is both sobering and liberating at the same time. Sobering in that it places scripture into the context of its time and surrounding thought patterns/worldview which can feel as thought it's just reflecting the prevailing culture in its imagery, mythology and story structure and yet liberating in freeing us from a narrow constrained view which, in giving context and humanity back to the writers, still manages to reveal a "higher" view of the world than the belief structures of the surrounding culture. Well worth the investment

The information in the bible was amazing but oh my goodness the paper was as thin as tracing paper enabling you to see all the information on the page before.The pages were all stuck together as they were so thin and it was really difficult to separate them.
