Tastes sooo GOOD!
I was told about steel cut oats by a client that likes to diet, and he told me that yes it takes longer to cook than instant oatmeal, but it is worth it, boy he was right!Full disclosure, I CANNOT stand instant oatmeal, I would have to force myself to eat it. The texture, taste, and basically everything about it, turns my stomach. This product is a far cry from instant oatmeal! Firstly, it takes about 15 minutes to cook after the water and salt get to a boil. Ensure you get the water (and salt) in the pot first, then get to a boil. After you see the water about to boil, add the serving of your choice to the pot, cover and put to a low simmer. Stir occasionally, and my doneness timing comes to about 15 minutes, or when the oats begin to get sticky on the bottom of the pot. I prefer an al dente dish as it reminds me of a good risotto. You can cook longer for a creamier texture, but I have not done that as that is not the texture I am going for. Now, the instructions say to add a pinch of salt, my opinion, salt to taste and use trial and error. For me, a pinch is not enough for a two serving bowl, I go with a teaspoon as it gives it more flavor. I do not add much salt to the rest of my dishes during the day, so I can live with splurging a little bit.At the price point for this pack of 4 is about what our local grocery store charges, but I have noticed that the availability of this product at our store has been limited lately. This product comes sealed and should last for a while. If I had to give this product a con, is that for a weekday breakfast, it will take you about 20 minutes from start to finish (5 minutes to get the water boiling, 15 to cook). Also, if you do not soak your pot immediately after cooking, cleanup get get a little tricky. If you plan ahead and are on top of the cleanup, you can avoid all the cons listed.I would recommend all to give this product a try and make it part of your balanced diet!

Bulk prepping
I used my 2.5 qt crock pot to make overnight oats. The lengthy process was a no brainer and the oatmeal was piping hot, chewy but thoroughly cooked. I don’t know how long they sat before I bought the bag, but the taste isn’t as fresh as prior in-store purchases (same item same size same brand). I like that it’s organic. Oats are always filling and helps my gut too. Souper cubing and freezing these oats so mom can nuke it and have a thoroughly cooked breakfast. I swirl in molasses or peanut butter and top with sliced fruit and blueberries.
