Simple, light weight and effective
What a great product, comes with tools to undertake the installation, cables for both USB C and A connections. Finish is quality and well suited to my Macbook and Z Book. Transfer speeds around 1GB per second which makes light work of transferring files. The unit does get quite hot when in use but has an internal heatsink and thermal pad to make good contact with the SSD to keep this protected from over heating. This unit caters for different size SSD from the smaller 42mm to 80mm, installation is really simple. The one gotcha for me was when installing the end cap cover there is a hole in there which needs to align to the activity LED which you have 50/50 chance of it aligning up. If when you use it there is no visual indication that the device is in use you'll need to rotate the plate ... or just make sure that it aligned in the first place. This is my second on of these, great value, fast, reliable and most of all sleek and with all cables. Great quality product.

Great little device, but will you be able to use it? Read detail below.
I bought this to clone an M.2 NVMe drive for an upgrade of my Laptop (HP Envy 13) from 256GB to 1TB - it's tiny, very neat and comes with just about everything you need to make a USB drive out of an M.2 card.*BUT* there's a "gotcha" which meant I ended up not using it for the purpose intended; a consequence of me not understanding how a drive in this enclosure appears to Windows. I will explain: I put my new M.2 card (a 1TB Sabrent Rocket) in the enclosure, following the instructions (all easy and perfect) then tried to use the copy of Acronis that came bundled with the Sabrent to clone from internal to external. Sabrent Acronis didn't recognise the Sabrent M.2 in the enclosure, so it refused to work. It was seeing the M.2 in the enclosure as a third party controller, not a Sabrent USB drive. I ended up having to use Windows backup to create a system image onto a "spare" USB drive that I had, swap the M.2 drives and then restore using a recovery drive. It all worked perfectly, but more convoluted than expected and, of course, I ended up not using the enclosure.I could, of course, have bought a non-Sabrent copy of Acronis, but I'm too tight for that!

Easy to assemble, thin, light and real life speed of 600MB/s
I bought this external enclosure to have a thin and light back up drive.I paired it with the "Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2280" (PCIe gen 3) 3400 read, 3000 write.Packaging was good, only one useless piece of additional plastic packaging. Contains two screws for the ssd (one for use and one for spare) along with 4 screws to screw on the heat sink. Two different cables provided. Very easy to install (less than 5 mins), the black screws can be a bit fiddly as they are small but overall easy to use.The ssd inside my laptop (XPS 9300) is of a similar spec. The left image shows the read/write of my internal ssd, the right image is the sabrent connected via the enclosure. My port was USB 3.1 gen2.The speed achieved by the enclosure will never hit the list speeds as it's not plugged directly into the motherboard. The real life speed is around 600MB/s, this will drop if you are transferring multiple small files.Heat: yes, this things heats up fairly quick, after a couple of mins of use it will get hot but the heat tops out after awhile and doesn't increase. I have only used this for short term use so can't vouch for the long term heat dissipation of the device.Overall I am happy with the enclosure. Hope this review is of help to people because it's hard to know what the real life speeds are of this enclosure.

With some fettling, this is a good product
Very rattly if you don't fix things a bit; an enthusiast kit.Accepts a Samsung PM961 SSD no problem; macOS saw it right away. The fitment problems:- The gold cap which holds the SSD has tolerances larger than the SSD PCB; understandably, as SSD PCBs will be slightly different thicknesses. This causes a bit of rattle; can be alleviated by placing a bit of electrical tape around the gold cap to take up the spare space.- The screws holding the heatsink on to the board are the wrong size, or the holes on the heatsink are too large; either way, no screwing was happening, they just fell back out of the holes.- The board rattles in the extruded housing. The solution to this, and the above, was to wrap electrical tape around the board and heatsink assembly. This adds padding to the housing rails and holds the screws in place for the heatsink. When all this extra fitting was done, the enclosure doesn't rattle around at all and it's a nice looking product. For the money, I'm satisfied, but this did take a surprising amount of building.

Easy to assemble...and provides for very fast external drive
I paired this enclosure with a Sabrent Rocket 1TB NVME drive. Only took a few minutes to assemble. Initially it rattled inside the case - I fitted a thin piece of plastic into the far end of the case to hold the pcb in place when the end plate is fitted.I am impressed with the Sabrent - the test results show the sequential reads and write reached over 1000MBps. This is on an Asus Zenbook 13 laptop using the USB C port. The maximum data rate for this port is 10Gps or around 1200MBps. So far the drive has performed as expected with no slowdowns, even when writing 10s of GB of data. The Sabrent is supplied formatted with ex-fat. I reformatted to NTFS. as I'm only using this with windows 10.Be aware that windows will not see the drive until it has an active partition setup. One of the easiest ways to do this is to use the free AOEMI Partition Assistant. It only takes a few seconds and this program supports changing drive format.I did consider the cheaper Sabrent Rocket Q drive - but this uses Quad Level Channel (QLC) flash memory compared to Triple Level (TLC) flash memory used in the Non Q Rocket. TLC is faster than QLC and isn't prone to slowdown , like QLC, when writing large amounts of data and the drive is getting full.Very pleased with this very fast compact portable drive.Case and Sabrent drive highly recommended.

literally the best thing I ever bought.
I'm surprised how fast it is to copy an entire partition to this, how effortless it is to connect and get recognized. Perfect for my needs. Best thing I ever bought. Literally.

Works Great For Cloning Samsung Drives Using Third Party Software!
I have a very expensive MSI gaming laptop that I use for professional music production and am familiar with doing my own mods. I am no expert but do have years of real world experience. That said, I decided to upgrade my main OS SSD drive to Samsung’s flagship 970 Pro NVMe M.2 (1 TB). Obviously this would involve cloning the original drive to the Samsung and not wanting to make any mistakes, I did a lot of research. There are a lot of usb enclosures available on Amazon... like hundreds and as far as I can tell, none of them support being recognizable by Samsung’s migration software. This is not a problem with the hardware and nothing to worry about. With this enclosure, I was able to successfully clone my main OS drive (500 GB Samsung NVMe M.2) to the new drive (1T Samsung 970 Pro NVMe M.2) in just over 14 minutes using the free version of Macrium Reflect (this would obviously take longer with an old school mechanical hard drive). I used the default software settings and had zero issues. I put the new drive in my computer and it worked as good as ever. The only difference is I now have more storage space! As for this enclosure, it seems to be of quality construction. The information in the ad is very detailed. Assembly is easy enough and the slim metal case is rugged and stylish. I’m very satisfied.

Good value, functional NVME USB enclosure
This enclosure looks pretty good - it comes in a space gray aluminum that, while not an exact match to my iMac Pro, looks nice next to it. I'm knocking off a star because of the garish (and kind of obscene-sounding) logo that is prominently displayed on the front of the drive. The way I need to use the drive the logo ends up upside down most of the time as well, which isn't ideal. It requires some fiddling with tiny screws to put it together, but the manufacturer is nice enough to give you extras in case you lose one. A heatsink and thermal strip are included and the drive gets warm when in use which implies that it's doing a reasonable job of dissipating heat from the NVME drive that I got.I'm getting just over 900MB/s read and write speeds, which is probably about the best you can expect. I'm using a Kingston NV1 SSD which is a budget drive - with a USB enclosure like this there's really no point in buying anything fancier as it's unlikely you'd be able to utilize the speeds offered by higher end drives. All in all this is a nice little package. It even comes with shorter 12-inch USB cables — one with Type A and one with type C so it will work with virtually any modern computer. There are a few minor negative attributes of this enclosure. As mentioned, the logo on the front detracts from the otherwise nice clean design. Also, the board shifts around a bit in the enclosure if you wiggle the USB cable, so it just feels a little cheap. This could possibly be rectified by adding some kind of padding, but it's minor enough that it doesn't really bother me in practice since it mostly stays put. Also the white activity LED is extremely bright and blinks in an annoying way with any kind of disk activity. It's pretty annoying - some manufacturers use a pulsing effect or something more subtle, which would be an improvement. A small piece of electrical tape can mitigate this in an unobtrusive way that blends into the black plastic of the fascia, although with this solution, plenty of the light still bleeds out around the connector to be able to see the activity LED.Since I started using this drive I have noticed kernel panics in macOS that caused my iMac Pro to spontaneously shut down, although I have yet to confirm that this enclosure is the cause. If other users have similar complaints, it might be something to watch out for!All in all I'd recommend this if you're looking for a budget enclosure to use with a spare NVME M.2 drive.
