the vg259qm keeps going black like its restarting. Sometimes happening several times per minute. What is the problem with this monitor?

If it is only for less than 3 seconds and resumes the game and is typically in fight intensive fights. It is most likely your ram timings are to right or not enough voltage to the ram or SoC. Check event viewer for display drivers crashing and relaunching. Mine got so bad Overwatch would crash completely and warzone wouldn’t even load on a 5900x with 2080ti. Would get 399 FPS for 30 min then crash or not even load on CoD WZ. I went from 3800c13 back down to 3800c15 and it resolves my issue. You’re may differ but I suggest using dram calculator and using the safe present and see if it still does it then. You can also use memtest86 or the ram tester in dram calculator or the one in clock tuner to see if getting whea errors which is ram. When it’s so bad it crashes the display driver and it restarts in game causing that annoying black screen for probably 1.5-2.5 seconds sometimes every hour sometimes every 90 seconds. What is the native refresh rate for this monitor?

280hz @8bpc with OC, 240hz @8bpc w/o OC, ~230hz @10bpc (customized refresh rate), 240hz @10bpc (with lcd or exact reduced using the program “CRU”) ~260hz @10bpc (Max potential refresh rate with 10 bit color enabled, using “CRU” to lcd reduce, and setting a custom refresh rate) All of this is for DisplayPort connection, HDMI tops out @240hz max.

Is this monitor overkill for the ps5?

Yes, you could probably find a cheaper 1080p monitor with 120-144hz. The PS5 will never be able to achieve the frame rate this monitor is capable of.

How is the vg259qm compared to the aw2521hf? any issues running 144hz/240hz instead of the full 280?

**UPDATE** I do wanna point out that the Asus VG259qm has much high input lag when you set the fixed refresh rate of 60hz, however running 144hz, 165hz, 240hz, and 280hz, and dropping FPS in game with VRR @60fps should be noticeably better. I do not recommend console gaming on the ASUS, however the Alienware should do fine with 60hz, 120hz, and 240hz.
