Finally The Perfect Thing To Cut Bread
This bread slicer is amazing. It folds up nearly flat. You do not have to be a scientist to figure out how to fold it. It slices bread PERFECTLY! I can get thin or thick slices of bread from the bread I make in my bread machine. The plastic piece that keeps the bread level works very well. I did buy a 12 inch bread knife because I know that the right, long knife makes things much easier. This is SOOOO much better than cutting homemade bread with any other bread slicer. I have been making bread in a bread machine for a long time. With other bread slicers, I had uneven slices that were smushed. It is sturdy. It almost feels Amish made. This is well-made, clever, and makes your slices look store cut.

Best thing since...sliced bread (insert groan here)
Reading the reviews of various bread slicers was fairly daunting. Not many stood out as "buy this and the angels will sing" so we decided to go with the Bread Pal and hope for the best. It's very well constructed, folds up to a minimal profile that won't gobble up precious kitchen space and it's not to shabby to look at. I really like the spring-loaded sides. The tension support for the guides adds an extra measure of security. As some of the comments have stated, you're going to need a bigger, serrated bread knife. We have an 8 inch Henckels that's just not long enough to pass through the entire loaf of bread and the slicing frame. Following the recommendations of others, we have upgraded to a 10 inch bread knife (since we were already feeling the money burn in our pockets, we went all out for a Wusthof). The combination appears to be the perfect solution. Freshly baked bread is fantastic but cutting it into reasonable slice sizes takes some effort. I'm happy we mitigated the frustration with this acquisition.

Love this slicer
I've been using this unit for a few months now...got tired of irregular slices in my homemade bread. I will start by saying that I love how this unit folds flat, even the plastic slicing guide can fit between the folded sides for storage...nicely done! The unit has one side with thin slice guides and one side with thicker guides and if even thicker slices are needed you can simply use the thin side and skip a slot. The unit is well made and I use it constantly as I no longer buy bread and all my bread is homemade. I will agree with another reviewer that you really need a bread knife proper or you will run into issues with the slots. One reviewer complained that the plastic guide was flimsy...well it's only meant as guide to put your bread up against for straight slices so you don't need a fortress for that. The one issue I have run across only once is in my haste to slice some bread I instead found myself cutting some of the wood edges in the slots. Since then I am more aware as I start slicing and have no longer had an issue...but I would like to see this unit with metal sides slots to avoid this issue all together. Although a little pricey I feel it was a good buy and I'm glad I spent the money on it. I could see where a product of lesser quality would have the spring hinges fall apart with constant use. It folds so flat you can easily store it on the counter using practically no space at all...one of it's best qualities. If you make your own bread I feel this is a must have. Highly recommended.

Very pleased with this purchase
This is a great bread slicer, much better than the plastic one i used to own. The slicer does what the descriptions says and it's not too difficult to cut nice even slices with careful steady cutting and a reasonably sharp knife - if you go too fast then there's a danger of catching the wooden guides with the knife. To prevent scoring the Bread pal's slicing surface I protect it with a small cutting board I have that fits nicely on top and is easier to replace. The Bread Pal is expensive but I can see it lasting many years - looks nice on the counter too! I like the way it can pack away flat when not in use.

Great Quality!
Made in the USA - even better! Very well constructed and I love that it folds down easily for storage. Bread slices in two "sizes" perfect for sandwiches (smaller) or French Toast (larger). You could slice them even larger by simply skipping a groove. You need, at minimum, a 10" bread knife for optimal slicing. If I'm careful, I can easily make an 8" knife work, but not if I want to slice fast or I get a little sloppy with my slicing. A 12" knife would be PERFECT, but a 10" does a nice job. Handy rubber feet on bottom keep slicer still on my countertop, and the plastic end-piece that some say arrived slightly "bowed" does not effect the quality of the product, in my humble opinion. You will love this bread slicer! I do! Great quality for the money! Edited to say: The seller was awesome. Ordered the slicer early in the a.m. on a weekday. It arrived the evening of the very next day! :)

Love this slicer
I love this bread slicer. I've had it since 2016 and have found it to be very helpful. Yes, the bottom plastic is getting some little slices in it, but nothing to worry about. It's the same material as regular cutting boards. It folds to 1-1/2 inches wide so it stores easily with my other cutting boards. I love that one end males thin slices and the other end, thicker slices. The end plastic piece is thin and flexes easily, so I just flip it one way and then the other the next time so it stays flat. Overall, I am very happy with this product and highly recommend it.

splinters.....
I was excited to purchase this slicer for my husband for Christmas since he makes the kids lunch in the morning. I even had my mother buy an accompanying knife that was long enough after reading the reviews. I was truly excited about this bread slicer, even for the price. The problem is the width of the gaps, not the wood size, but the gap for the knife blade. When we slice bread we often "skim" the knife off of the wood(not on purpose) and it splinters the guides. It is so easy to do you don't often notice... I think it is bamboo which really lets it splinter. I am hoping that as we use it, the splinters will widen the gap enough not to be a problem, but I am doubtful.
