One Remarkably Dependable Ink With A Nostalgic Look
Some housekeeping before the review: This particular listing needs some serious editing. First off, it is listed as "Cross" in the listing and second, the ink is referred to as "Skrip Jet Blue/Black" which is incorrect and leads searches away from the product. It is "Sheaffer Skrip Blue Black" period. "Jet" would refer to black ink and I am not certain where it came from in this listing. The Reveiw: I have been a fountain pen aficionado/enthusiast for about 5 years now. My "go to" ink has always been Parker Quink Permanent Black and while the Parker Quink PB is a fine ink, this Sheaffer Skrip Blue Black has some real benefits to offer, the primary benefit being that it is not a "saturated" ink. By that I mean that it is not so loaded with dyes that pen maintenance becomes the overriding concern. From everything I have read regarding current production (Slovenian) Skrip inks are very "pen friendly." This ink is also quite paper friendly. Even with the somewhat wet-writing pen there is little, if any, print-through to the reverse side of the sheet. For someone wishing to use both sides of the paper in a notebook this would be a welcomed benefit. Consequently, Sheaffer Skrip Blue Black would be a good choice if you find you often have to write out "in the wild" where circumstance (and someone else's budget) dictates the paper. As to color, this is an ink that evokes 1935-1940. It is the color of ink you would find on an inscription on the back of a black and white photo from the 1936 World Olympics or a postcard from about that same time. It is a true Blue Black with a very slight leaning (on some papers) towards teal.. but not very much...just a small bit. I get some shading with this ink as well and have started using it for writing and signing checks as I find that it has good water resistance. Note, please, that I said "good water resistance." This does not mean that it will not take a beating in a washing machine or survive, unblemished, a trip to the bottom of (insert your water vessel here). What I do mean is that should a check meet with a spill, 80% or more of the dye will still be in the paper when the culprit is finished blotting it semi-dry. It means that you can have confidence in addressing an envelope and knowing that, even if it rains, the address will be legible enough for the USPS to do its job. One last thing: The flow of this ink is quite adequate for most pens. However, some pens today tend to be a little dry in the writing department. This ink is not a wet writing ink, nor is it a dry writer like some of the Pelican inks are often described. If you find this ink to be dry in your pen, don't blame the ink first. Look at your pen with a 10X loupe. If the tines of the nib are actually touching then the issue is more than likely the pen. I highly recommend Sheaffer Skrip Blue Black as a dependable, pen and paper friendly ink that does the job well. I presently have it loaded in my 1937 Esterbrook Model B (Dollar Pen) and love the way it performs. Note: I have added a photo to show the characteristics of this ink. Since this was shot with a smart phone, perhaps the best representation of this ink is in the middle area of the photo. The darkening at top and bottom are the result of lighting. The actual intensity of the ink is consistent over the page. You can see hints of shading and, for those of you who are less than diligent with pen maintenance, this ink is quite forgiving of longer intervals between flushing.

A well-behaved and subtle ink
This is the new made in Slovenia ink. I bought this to use primarily in my mid-50's Sheaffer Snorkel and it's behaved very well. Smooth, but not overly lubricated or greasy feeling. Good color, though definitely not highly saturated. On Rhodia or Tomoe River, the color renders as a dark blue-gray. On high quality paper I get definite shading even with a fine nib. On cheaper, more absorbent paper the subtlety of this ink is lost and it looks more like a washed-out navy blue. If you want an ink that leans towards the black end of the blue-black this is a great choice. If you want a bluer ink then you might want to try elsewhere. For a dye-based ink it has a decent amount of water resistance. It looks as if the blue dye washes out first and what remains is gray lettering if exposed to water. It dries quickly on high quality papers and is, for me anyway, easier on the eyes than high saturation inks, especially if you're writing on cream or off-white paper. The relatively low color saturation gives this ink a decidedly vintage feel. For the price, this is an excellent ink and excels where a good blue-black should: every day use, not temperamental, attractive but not showy, and cheap enough to use daily. This has replaced my Sailor Sei-Boku as my daily use ink (a wonderful ink, but expensive and hit-or-miss with vintage fountain pens). This definitely deserves a place in a good ink collection.

Best fountain pen ink!
Perfect - just as I remember from using in school seventy years ago! Still use the pen from that time now too!

Good Standard Blue/Black Ink
I love the vintage look this ink has...Brings me back to the 70's when I first used a fountain pen. Easy to rinse from any pen. Blue/Black is one of my favs and this is doesn't disappoint.

Looks like it has been diluted significantly and not at all ...
Very watery and washed out color. Looks like it has been diluted significantly and not at all vibrant. No shading or character to this ink, it honestly looks like diluted black ink. I heard that Sheaffer moved a lot of their production to a third party contractor in china--it shows in the quality of the ink. I went straight back to parker, and pilot. This used to be a great ink, and now it is terrible. Unfortunate what chasing profits does to good ink.

I love this ink!
After my old bottle of US made Skrip ran out I tried several other kinds - Pelikan, Waterman, Mont Blanc and did not like any of them as well. I decided to try this and was very pleased. It flows well, and does not clog in my Sheaffer snorkel and PFM. With Pelikan I had to recap almost instantly. I have more time with this ink and can leave the cap off for a longer time. The color is very intense.

Miss the old bottles.
I have some vintage Skrip Blue/Black (in the awesome inkwell bottle) that performs better. However, this is still pretty good ink. I would have given 5 stars, if it was still in the cool bottle.

I've had a Scheaffer fountain pen for years and considered it a poor writer. I had always used Quink and it seems to clog the pen. I put this down to the pen but it is quite obvious now that the formulation of the ink does matter enormously. I have been using this for a few weeks and the pen has written beautifully without clogging once. The colour is just right and I'm delighted. My handwriting has improved as well.

Love the shade of this ink which has become hard to find except online. So much cheaper than cartridges.
