ALEX Toys DIY Wear Friendship Wheel

I bought this kit for a friend's nine-year old, since she likes making the regular knotted bracelets so much. She couldn't wait to tear into it! The measurements at the side of the directions page are handy- the only thing you need that's not in the kit is a scissor. The only problem we really had was starting the pattern, physically. It's very clear-cut and the color-coding is very easy to follow, but holding the wheel, the knot, and still having a free hand to separate the strands nicely while keeping the knot in the center of the wheel is a bit of a trick- I ended up holding the wheel and the knot for her the first time so she could move the strands. After that, it is a breeze- just a few simple steps, repeated. Overall, I'm giving it four stars since I can't vouch for how well it holds up, I don't know how "educational" it would be past developing coordination skills, and the fumbling it took to start, which I'm sure gets easier with time. Otherwise, it's great- she gets to create friendship bracelets that are very different from the ones her friends make!

My daughter was introduced to this activity at age nine or so, and she still enjoys it at almost fifteen! This is a good value, with two of the round looms. {A square loom is included in some of the kits that are larger than this one, but the square loom is not as popular.} (I will update this review when we have had a chance to try the square loom.) The pair of wheels and ten colors of embroidery floss in this kit are packed in a clear plastic box that is worth keeping, nut just the usual disposable packaging.Some folks seem to have had a hard time figuring out the friendship wheels, based on their negative reviews. DD had no trouble with the written directions, and there is an online video also. If you get really stuck, consider buying one of the Friendship Wheel Singles (about five dollars), which comes with the thread already started. Hope you enjoy this as much as we have!

I got this for my daughter for her 8th bday. She had a little trouble at first remembering where to begin and end each move of the string, but by the end of the first bracelet she had it down perfect.The bracelets are formed by moving a string from one side to the other side and they are held by the slots in the foam ring. The design forms by starting with the colors placed in certain "petals" when you begin. If you mess up the order as you work your design will not come out correctly (as with my daughter's first bracelet) but it still looks very cool. Good keep busy craft!

Great toy!!! I got it for me because I wanted to try Kumihimo with inexpensive thread!!! ( I am an adult, I think)This was awesome, the wheels give you an easy practice for future more complex patterns!!! The only thing missing is a weight, I used a small metal clamp like a cloth pin ( I attached to the knot), any hardware store have then for $2.00. You can also attach something to a paper clip!YES!

instructions are very clear, there is a good amount of material to make braceletes. I really perfer alex toys over some of them. The wheel was made with qualtiy to ensure it does not break easy. The colors are great. My daughter really enjoys this. I would recommend this for children over 8 it may be difficult for a younger child to do. But you know your child.

I actually bought this years ago and was so glad I could buy it again this year. I think the instructions are clear for children around 8 years old. There is a good selection of string before you need to stop by the store and pick more up for only a dollar. The friendship wheel makes a great gift and is a nice pass time if you need something to do with your hands while you watch TV.

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter, and she has been enjoying it immensely. She watched the helpful video and read the instructions, and made her first bracelet all in a matter of an hour or two. She's excited to try the other patterns, playing with the colors and making gifts for her friends. This really sparked her creativity! I can't comment on durability much, because we just got this gift today, but I can see how if a child is rough on the wheels they could break or the colors wear off. I don't think we'll have issues, but younger kids might.

The wheels make beautiful bracelets. All four pattern sides use the same process - just like in the short video. I cut my lengths of floss at 22" to give a little extra to work with. It takes me about an hour to complete one bracelet. I don't find it difficult, but I do have to pay attention to stay on track. The time and detail involved may be trying for younger children.

Nachdem die stark riechenden Schaumstoffräder eine Nacht an der frischen Luft ausgedünstet hatten, konnte der Knüpfspaß beginnen. Und wie! Oma und Enkelinnen sind hellauf begeistert und haben schon Freundschaftsbändchen in allen möglichen Farben und Mustern geknüpft. Und auch die Freundinnen Kinder werden damit beglückt. Es dauert halt ein bisschen, aber Menschen mit Geduld und Durchhaltevermögen kommen recht bald zu einem super Ergebnis.
