For my main hobby, I paint miniature soldiers - formerly 1/72 and now concentrating more with 28mm. However, I do occasionally deviate from the usual American Civil War figures. I recall growing up as a young child in the late 60s-early 70s and being fascinated with the Apollo missions to the moon. I also recall the old Airfix model and figure kits that came out then. Seeing this kit brought out the little kid in me but also my passion for our nation's history. Putting the LEM together is a bit tough for me, as I normally don't do plastic models. Painting the astronauts is the easy part for me. I am very satisfied with my purchase!

My 13 year old did most of this on his own, but I had to help with the painting in the end because it got tough for him.

The model is fun to make, but some of the smaller pieces are quite fiddly, and I'm glad that I had fine forceps to hand. It's optional to either paint the landing stage gold, or to apply the supplied gold sheet. The latter is demanding, but the result gives the authentic wrinkled appearance, and looks better. The moon surface, the astronaut figures and the various devices to be placed on the surface combine to make a very satisfying tribute to one of the great moments in human history.

Habe mir diesen Bausatz vor einem Jahr gekauft und damit meine ersten Schritte im Modellbau gemacht. Im Nachhinein ist dies ein Schöner Bausatz, allerdings sollte man sich vor dem Zusammenbau Spachtelmasse und Grundierung zulegen. Mit diesen zusätzlichen Materialien lässt sich dann ein schönes Modell bauen.

Dies ist ein älterer Bausatz und das merkt man an der Detailierung. Einige Teile sind nicht so filigran wie bei neueren Modellen (daher ein Stern qeniger). Dennoch ist dies sehr gut für Einsteiger geeignet, da der Bau sehr einfach ist und auch jüngere Modellbauer nicht überfordert. Für einen günstigen Preis gibt es: neben der Landefähre und einer ordentlich gestalteten Bodenplatte einige Astronautenfiguren und viel Zubehör, so daß sich verschiedene Missionen darstellen lassen.

Having broke my leg recently i decided to get an airfix model on advice from family members, i love space and so this model seemed perfect especially seeing as the 40th anniversary has just been and gone of the moon landings. I remember doing a couple of spitfires when i was young (i'm 28 now) and always being a bit disappointed towards the end when i realised that the paints were not included and so the model looked nothing like what was on the front of the box. I usually just felt disheartened or cheated at this point and so gave up. (Why should i fumble around looking for the right paints when i'm only eight years old?!) Anyway I was pleased the paints were included, as i feel they should be, with this set. However i'm not sure they got the skill level with this right it says 2 on the box (4 is hardest) but this model is really quite fiddly especially compared to a spitfire. However although it is fiddly it does come with gold tin foil which is better than the gold paint and putting that on is not as hard as one may think. Although you may want to consider wrapping the lower half (the bit thats meant to be gold) of the lunar model and its legs in the foil first before assembly as this would be easier. I didn't do this but its something you may want to consider. Overall if you have an interest in space and like modeling then you should certainly consider this great value model kit.
