It just sits there and works
Like other HP Enterprise/Aruba hardware, it just sits there and works. Remember to turn on SSH and turn off Telnet.

Excellent with Certain Limitations
These Aruba switches are an excellent value, especially for a knowledgeable home user. The way HP keeps the price down is by disabling certain features you'd find in the higher end products. (All the hardware is basically the same.) For example, these switches do not include support for an administrative CLI. If you don't know what that means, you know why it's not there. It is an inconvenience sometimes, though. I only use the local administration, so I can't comment on their cloud interface. The device also expects SFP modules to be the very expensive Aruba ones, so you need to make sure any third-party product you try to install is at least compatible, and even then, the switch will fuss about a "non-compliant SFP inserted." It'll work, but an error light will keep blinking. Finally, since these are geared more toward home or very small business users, don't expect any support whatsoever except for occasional firmware updates. Overall, this is a refined product and works very well.

1930 8-Port GbE Switch: THIS is NOT Enterprise Quality Equipment
Final review revision: I’ve taken this out of service and will discard it. Start-up time, measured in minutes, is just too much for a backbone use… with no offsetting positive feature. —- I'm totally revising my previous review, and raising my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. If you dig into the docs enough... which Aruba/HPE does not make obvious... this switch can be entirely locally managed, and does *not* need to be managed through their cloud-based portal. Why on earth they don't TELL you this... but instead provide you with a getting started card that tells you to install the iPhone/Android app is absolutely beyond me. I was ready to throw the thing out, literally, when I stumbled upon the real, actually, manual that describes two ways to manage the switch. The switch startup time is still LUDICROUS. I mean, multiple minutes to start A SWITCH? And it's not clear to me, at all, that it doesn't ping the portal during startup to determine if its managed locally or remotely... which is entirely ridiculous. The fact that you can tag ports for VLANs and set 802.1p traffic classes does NOT make this an Enterprise Quality piece of equipment. I *will* give it points for "dual image" configuration. I'm going to continue to play with the device... but the startup time is likely to prevent me from ever loving this device.

Dead after 4 weeks
Worked great for about 3-4 weeks. Then it died. Couldn't revive it. Can't buy another of these unstable devices.

Decent but might need some airflow
I just needed a small switch with optical uplinks for classroom demos, and while this was slightly larger than I might have expected, it's well made as you would expect from Aruba, even for just an entry-level switch. I don't need any management capabilities per se, so I have not tried doing any setup but it's pretty much plug-and-play if you don't need to worry about VLANs, security, etc. The 1G SFPs are limited for true uplinks (10G is available on other models, of course), but for a SOHO and for the price point, this is all reasonable. As noted in the review title, even a small bit of airflow will allow the switch to run significantly cooler. While not deemed necessary by the vendor, my experience is that Ethernet chips run hot, particularly at their specified speeds. If you were mounting this in a cabinet or behind other equipment and cables, I would consider a small muffin fan for some airflow. Sometimes, co-located equipment with an aggressive fan will provide adequate airflow for other, nearby devices like this. Of course, fan-less operation would often not be needed, and the equipment runs perfectly quiet without a fan. Consider such things when purchasing a switch like this. If this meets your needs, and/or you need a few more features than the low-end TrendNets, I'd certainly recommend it.

I purchased this Aruba switch for my new home after buying one several years ago through my employer for the family cottage. Both are the same revision and run the same firmware. I am please with both. The one at the cottage is in layer 3 mode and really boosted the speed of my internal network. It is also converting my internet signal from Bell to something my SonicWall can understand (eliminated Bell Home Hub thanks to this unit, so happy about that!). The one I purchased for home is acting as an intermediary switch between my Cisco 52 port SG300 and Fortigate 40F. Easy to configure LACP, everything came up right away. I also have my main desktop plugged into it, and it's like I'm plugged right into the Cisco. I would highly recommend this product if you are ok with no CLI (kind of a bummer).
