It does not come with instructions, had to go on line to get them.

What is the plastic 'key' for?

The key is used to tight down the screw that runs through the puzzle. :)

What do we do with the third black sticker?

It goes on his back! The two small slits are his eyes and the large oval one is for the spot on his back :)
