Extremely easy to install and works perfectly....
Extremely easy to install and works perfectly. This closer does not a solid round bar but has a notched bar which works really well when holding the door open and the release button is stable. Some reviewers complained that the notches were noisy when opening and closing but I personally didn't find that to be the case.

Powerful, not complicated to install
Good quality, easy install. But too much power, and down-regulating does not work. Had to remove one of the two I bought for our glass storm door, but still slams the door when you just let it go.

Easy Replacement - But Unit Failed
I have a substantial security "screen" security door (heavy metal frame, perforated plate screen, and a design panel) which I had installed about 10 years ago. It came with a hold open closer which was failing (popping, cracking on close; not closing as well as it did). Of the several choices offered, I took a chance on the cheapest one. It was a direct replacement for the one I had - just needed to pull the two end pins, take the old one out, put this new one in, replace the pins, and adjust the closing screw on the end, done. After taking this easy route, I did elect to change the door jamb bracket but the new bracket used the same holes so just remove the screws, swap the bracket, replace the screws. Nice when a 5 minute job really does take about 5 minutes. It has been in place for several weeks and so far so good. Hope it lasts 10 years like the one it replaced. Update 13OCT19: Downgraded to one star. Would have downgraded to 0 if I could. Unit failed TWO days after the return window closed. Amazon Customer Service was nice enough to give me a "store" credit for part of the cost of this closer but really frosts my cookies to have the thing fail. How did it fail? Opened the door to the max allowed by this closer - maybe 75 or 80 degrees (you can never get to 90 unless you take any closer off - my experience anyway) - and when I went to release by pushing the door further open, the closer was locked. Could not open the door that last 1/2 inch to allow the closer to disengage. This particular closer has notches on the rod (much like an old time bumper jack or some jack stands) rather like a smooth rod like the one it replaced and the one I replaced this one with.

Great when they work - 50% failure rate within a year
Super sturdy, good adjustment, and I love the tap functionality (although having it on the top as others have mentioned would be marvelous!). Unfortunately, of the two I bought, one has had a hydraulic failure. I've contacted the company from support and will update this review based on their response.

Improvement over Anderson closer
I installed an Anderson 2000 storm door less than 1 year ago, and a storm about 3 weeks ago flung the door open and bent both closers. I received this a few days ago and already I see an improvement. 1. Although this is a thicker barrel, length wise it is a perfect fit. I was able to use the bracket that was already mounted on the door. It would have installed on the bracket on the jamb as well, but the bracket was damaged by the wind. So it was a quick job to replace the jamb bracket with the one included with my purchase. 2. I paired up the lower heavy duty closer with a regular duty for the upper closer from the same manufacturer. I adjusted the top to close hard, and the bottom to close soft which worked better than trying to get both to close at the same force. Now the door closes and latches everytime. I could not get the Anderson closers to do this. 3. The door feels heavier now and is not as prone to blow open in the wind. For added measure, i installed a chain which was able to loop onto the upper closer bracket pin. It's only been a few days, so I cannot attest to the longevity yet. But if I find that they fail prematurely then I will update this review. No update means they are still working.
