Absolutely found this book a fantastic help. I've been struggling with defining my Higher Power after decades in recovery and spiritual seeking. Put me on the right path. I feel so much clearer about my Higher Power now. And helped me get back on my spiritual path. Enhanced my recovery and working the steps.I didn't find this book off-putting or "religious." And Chesnut brings in examples from all addictions, which I really appreciated. He really sticks to 12 Step recovery in giving aid in find the "God of my understanding."I cherish this book. First bought it as Kindle and then wanted to own the paperback. I don't usually feel the need to do that, but this book was quite special.

I love the way this author writes. Very clear to understand. This is a book I will read again and again. Lots of wisdom here if you are a student of 12 steps and sobriety. It seems to me, that you would never regret buying it.

Please, please do not hesitate to buy this amazin book. It's amazing the way the writer explains and helps us getting through our doubts, difficulties searching for a higher power in our daily lives. wish for a translation in spanish. One of the best spiritualiy books about surrender and 12 steps. It really really helps.

This book gave me amazing insight about life, personal set backs and the strength to rise above it through faith. It helped to save my life and put me on a spiritual path of self awareness. It was my "go to" book for several months

I can honestly state that this book is one of the most practical books I have ever read. It allows one to approach spirituality from ANY perspective and, at the same time, inspires confidence in the method. Many of these type books offer only suggestions, without the "proof" that is necessary for many individuals before they become capable of committing their entire lives to the unknown. I also feel that this book was a pleasant application of many of the principals espoused by Emmet Fox and other practitioners of New Thought and the Unity (not Unitarian) Church. This book can save a life without a doubt !

I strongly recommend this book to interested members of all 12-step groups, particularly non-believers having trouble with their Higher Power. I have 13 years in AA & NA and I would rate it a must-have for sponsors. The book is easy to read, has many anecdotes and has been used successfully at AA book studies in Southern California. The material is entirely consistent with the AA Big Book and the 12 & 12 (quotes them a lot) and draws on a deep and broad knowledge of 12-step groups, religions and history. The author is a professor at Indiana University, a Methodist minister and a doctor of theology from Oxford University but the book is written for regular 12-step members. A wonderful book on a difficult subject!
