I see that the the recommended desktop width is 140cm, but has anyone tried fitting a 180cm wide desktop?

I have a 120cm long desktop on mine. Fitting a 180cm long top would leave you with an overhang from the supports of approx 35cm. So long as your not going to place heavy objects on the edges of the table it would probably be ok. I guess the larger the desktop the temptation is to load up the table which could overload the motor.

Does this fit 140cm ikea desk-tops without having to drill into them?

My table top is not IKEA but I have just placed on top and not screwed it on and it is still very secure. I think if you just make sure that it sits squarely you don't need to screw on. If it is likely to slip because af material a double sided sticky should stop it from sliding. Hope that helps.
