You could - but I wouldn't recommend it. The cold might cause problems with the wood; the expansion and contraction of the material might cause the bonding of the wood layers to come apart. Since wood is something of an insulator compared to metal, it might be a disappointment as something that would chill a drink, although the metal insert would serve in such a capacity.

If i buy the six pack of these is there any way to get those engraved or should I just get my own separate name plates and install them on the mugs?
