It depends on which model they send. I ordered 2 and one is smooth and no leg cutout. One is rough and has leg cutout on the side. From reading the reviews, you some variation of the table pictured.

Yes, comfortably. I'm 5'5. The legs are off center from front to back so it allows one side for sitting. Each end is available as well. I have used a typing chair and a stool to work at mine. Love this table. So lightweight and portable. Collapses for easy storage. Oh! And stable.

is there a secret to opening the legs? they seem to be bolted together and there's no instructions for opening

The legs should be bolted at the point where they unfold so that the top crossbars can snap into the underside of the top. Don’t try to take those bolts out since the principle is a scissors design.
