I got both of Smith's small portable sharpener's. The advice I would give is that you like something with some umph to it, but portable and still relatively light then go with this one. The sharpener's are very effective for keeping a working edge on any knife even serrated. But it has a steel core that ends in a window shatter tip. Kind of like if you prefer full tang knives you'll like this one better. Also, I may be mistaken but if you simply hold on to it and hit someone it could act like a brass knuckle ala Mel Gibson in Payback when he knocks out the security guards with a roll of quarters. In anycase, I just like its feel and it works great so... hope that helps ya.

This product works great, easy to use and doesn't take up much space in any type of gear you happen to be using, camping, hunting are working, helps keep the edge of your blade ready to use.

The coarse sharpener arrived broken; it was defective from the factory. They have no quality control whatsoever. This item is going straight to the trash. In the other hand is super heavy, no good for survival kit due its so heavy.
