Does this adapter drain the battery while it's sitting on the shelf? I read in some reviews that it can drain the battery.

Li-ion batteries have a circuit board (called a PCM) which monitors the voltage of each cell while charging, discharging, or just sitting. If the voltage in any cell goes too low or too high the PCM will not allow charging. The PCM needs a small amount of current to do this job (often this current is pulled from 1 cell but that doesn't really matter). Therefore the battery can potentially become "bricked" if the battery sits on the shelf too long. I try to always fully charge these batteries before placing them into storage and if stored long term recharge every 6 months or so to avoid the battery going to "sleep".

Does this adapter reduce the voltage going into the drill ?

The working voltage of both the 18v and the 20v battery is 18 volts under load and 20 volts while not under load. Both batteries are essentially the same voltage under both conditions.

Does with work with the larger batteries even though description says compact batteries only?

When I read this specific limitation, "Do not use adapter with premium batteries (DCB200, DCB204, DCB204BT, DCB205) in 18V Compact drills DC970, DC759." it is written in a way that you should not use premium batteries with the two compact drills mention (DC970 & DC759). I have used this adapter with 2 AH, 3 AH, and 5 AH batteries. Each different size battery provides power to the tool and does not appear to affect the function. It is worth mentioning that I do not own the two compact drills noted above. Also, the adapter will have issues with the 18v circular saw. Even with the slimmest 2 AH battery pack, the circular saw will not be able to cut at its full depth due to the battery pack making contact with the surface of the wood. This will only affect you if you plan to make cuts longer than the base (shoe) of the circular saw at full depth.

Will these batteries & adapter work with my dw959 drill and dw936 circular saw?

As long as it takes Ni cad batteries it will work. The only down fall of this adapter is that u can't leave your batteries plugged on the tool. Someone in the adapter drains the lithium batteries. Other than that it's a good product
