Good lantern for general use but not for every use case
I also have the 6D version and the 3AA versions. I got this as the 6D uses a lot of cells and it quite big and heavy + neither of my other lamps offer the same minimal light level and extended run time on lowest level. The good: Solid build, quite heavy with 3 x D battery, good range of light levels though I would rather the flash required a hold of the button or something...... I might use flash once. Can have very long run time depending on light levels. It should run 2.5x to 3x as long as the rechargable version as they are stingy with the cells in the rechargeable. Flexible, can use as a lantern or remove shade and hang upside down as a down lighter. Not so good: Typical focus on high lumens which gives a short run time when long run time is a often more useful when away from mains power. The low setting could be lower, it's a little to bright to sleep with it on if you have it close. Impossible to set to actual minimum level reliably, light comes on at full power. The adjustment doesn't stop at the minimum, it immediately increases passing straight through the minimum so you have to just try and get as close as you can. -1 star for this as it should have been trival to pause at lowest setting or have the lowest setting as one of the presets as you click through for use as a nightlight. D cells more expensive and need a specific charger due to size. There is a label on the lamp stating 4.5V 2A. Most 2500 - 5000 mAh rechargeable cells are only rated at 0.8 - 1A discharge so budget D rechargeables or AA in converter may not work well. 3xAA per each D converters might be OK but then you need 9AA. The EBL 10000 mAh are rated at 3500 mAh continuous discharge so work fine in the lamp. I have some of these from my other lamps which these will replace. Summary A good lantern if you won't have access to recharge for a while especially as you can have spares othewise a rechargeable version and a power bank might be better though that has a much shorter run time.

No fuss just shine a light.
great little lamp been of great service in the dark nights especially last year when we spent some time in the New Forest. Was a great help at home when we lost power to the bath room. One other thing the batteries last for an age in fact can I remember the last change we made.

Great but battery compartment had to open
These have just arrived, and they are great. Very light (in weight), but a word of caution - it's difficult to open the battery compartment. If you have arthritic/weak hands, I would look elsewhere. Other than that, these are ideal.

Excellent lantern for power cuts / blackouts
Excellent brightness (not dazzling,) with a good 360 degree beam, dimmable, sturdy, certainly not lightweight - but not too heavy either. It has a nice solid feel that won't be knocked over easily. I'm very pleased with this lantern as it very clearly lights up each medium sized room that I've tried it in extremely well in the dark. I plan to only use it during a blackout as I calculated that it would be expensive to frequently replace even the cheapest of batteries - and not very environmental, although disposable batteries can still be recycled in most supermarkets. Having batteries stored in a safe battery case (most batteries have a shelf life of 10 years,) is a guaranteed way of having light during blackouts or an emergency. I also bought a few rechargeable lanterns of a similar style (they're much more lightweight by the way,) incase of blackouts, but mainly so I can use the rechargeable versions each evening to save on electricity bills. ( I use a solar panel attached to power banks, then use the stored energy in the power banks to recharge the rechargable lantern versions.) The problem I find with the rechargeable lantern versions though is they usually need recharging every 3-5 hours - which is fine if there's one or two backup lanterns to use whilst the other is recharging, electricity available, or enough power stored in a power bank to recharge them - but what if there isn't? That's why I bought this battery powered version and spare D batteries, (it can't be used with rechargable batteries unfortunately,) as a guaranteed way of having light during a power cut if the other recharargeable lanterns run out of power first. I find it difuses more light in the room with the lampshade detached. I like it placed on top of a sturdy and tall cabinet as an uplighter, (it's softer on my eyes being placed above my eye level and the light is not glaring down on me either as it would be if it's hung on the ceiling with the hook on the bottom,) and it still lights up the entire room very clearly and beautifully sitting securely on top of my cabinet with the lampshade detached as an uplighter - even on the soft warm setting. The button is easy to press and it's very simple to use. I would definitely recommend this lantern.

Ideal for Power Cuts
Got this as a main light in the event of a power cut. It is certainly bright but it also has a warmer, more mellow setting for indoor. The instructions were not easy to find but the only thing that really matters is how to install the batteries. (You twist the bottom black section anticlockwise through 45 degrees.) How long the three D sized batteries last remains to be seen.
