Great starter set , lots of fun and worth the price !!!
I purchased this starter set as my Christmas gift to myself and I couldn’t be more happy with it !!! It was easy to assemble and it runs great !!! No problems with the train not running smoothly or not running at all as some have experienced !!! The detail on such a small piece is amazing and I can’t wait for the buildings and trees on order to arrive so I can begin creating my layout !!! Thanks Bachman !!! ✌️😎

A bit disappointed on internals
Very well made and quite a nice set. The details are great and well done. BUT the internals are really quite disappointing. I would expect the internals to use the same motor as the dcc ready version but no. The dcc ready version ha@ a motor with multiple wires coming out of it. This does not! It has fewer wires meaning I will need to replace the entire motor in order to later upgrade it to dcc as I originally planned! I see no reason to have these two different motors other than to make sure this is the case so you have to spend more money to get the dcc version, In other words, greed! I love the loco it runs well and everything, but now I will have to spend even more money to upgrade this! If that wasn't enough they don't weight the cars at all so they derail easily and might even blow off the track entirely with a bit of wind from say an hvac system kickimg on or a slamming door. I added some weights and this solved the problem but for a set like this for a beginner in the hobby, this is not a good thing! Do better bachmann!

Easy track assembly
Such a beautiful locomotive and it has the old-school Caboose. . Wish they would do more nice sets like this .

Bad Product.
Went around the track once and engine fell apart. So disappointed! Would like to return but have track in place will have to get a different engine.

Extremely nice and highly detailed.
Runs perfectly fine. It has a great deal of detail. Small and delicate details. Wouldn't suggest buying it for a young child. All metal construction even the tender is metal. Heck the headlight even turns off when you put the train into reverse. That is something usually reserved for more expensive DCC equipment engines.

This is a great little train set
This is a great little train set, it worked perfectly with the full load of cars and everything. It is a little jumpy on the corners at low speed, but after running it for a while it seemed to right itself.

Engine broken right out of the box
One of the engine coupling rods was not attached completely. I could see how it should fit but I can't get it to go. I solved the issue (not fixed) by reversing the rod. I had to remove a screw and reverse the rod. It now stays where it should but is inside out. I hope it stays. The train won't be run much as it is mostly for Christmas decoration or I would have sent it back. There are complaints about Bachmann trains along the line, something just isn't how it should be. I think they have bad QC and give credence to the complaints I have read. The detail on the engine and cars is good. The track went together fairly well. I wore magnifying glasses so I could see when the track wasn't fitting together smoothly just what I needed to do. I can't recommend anything Bachmann based on my limited experience.

Beautiful Engine with Great Detail - Smooth Running - Minor sticky points
I’m very pleased with the Trailblazer set overall, especially the engine. I’ve been wanting this strikingly beautiful steam locomotive for quite a while, and since I could only find it with this set, I purchased the set just for the engine. The extra cars were a bonus for me. The engine runs very smoothly at slow speeds — the true test of a well‑designed motor and drive train. It has ample pulling power thanks to the rubber‑coated front drive wheels, and in my experience it has successfully hauled up to 10 cars (though this will vary depending on wheel composition and rolling resistance). The engine also has a working headlight. I rated the set 4 stars due to a couple of sticky points: Turnouts: The small front wheels often derail on Bachmann #4 turnouts. If you plan to expand your track, #6 turnouts are a better choice and cause fewer derailments. On the plus side, despite its short wheelbase, the engine navigates the straight side of a turnout without losing power. Bachmann deserves credit for designing the coal tender with electrical pickup wheels and a powered coupler connection to the engine - this prevents stalls at slow speeds and jerks at high speeds when crossing turnout frogs, a common issue with engines lacking this feature. Couplers: While closer to scale, they don’t couple easily. Across several Bachmann sets I own, this has been a consistent frustration. Significant pressure is needed to connect cars, often leading to derailments during the process. For realistic automatic coupling/decoupling, the couplers will need to be replaced. Overall, I think this set is a good value for a starter set. The engine is the highlight — smooth, powerful, and beautifully detailed — but be prepared to address turnout compatibility and coupler performance if you want the best experience.

So i got this little gem of a set on sale for $99 canadian. And it was money well spent, first of all an equivalent engine from bachmann goes for the 170 dollar range, now you have to be careful putting the track together ensuring the rails go inside the joiners otherwise you will have lots of derailments, but if you take your time and put it together properly it will run great for you. The control works well and all the rolling stock is very nice and detailed. The rerailer terminal piece is a great touch too and really does work well for thissmall scale
