Quality seed
Bought this last fall and it came up nice in the fall. It really filled in well this spring and the area looks great. I did presoak the seed for a few days before I put it down and I don’t know if that made a difference, but I’m very happy with the results.

Prep, patience & practice
I like this seed, I don’t love it. I purchased a 3lb and 7lb bag for my 1000 sq ft area to seed. I live in a transition zone 5b. High desert (very dry, low humidity with little to no rain) and 7000 ft in elevation. (Northern NM)I spent a week prepping the area by hand tilling the soil and burnt the weeds prior with a weed torch. The window for seeding here is very small. I finished the prep on a Saturday with temps in the high 80’s and watered, seeded, start fertilized and covered with a frost cloth to keep the seedlings moist on Sunday when the weather dropped to the 70’s with lows in the 40’s. The last picture is today, day 27 since seeding Sept 9th. I watered 3 times a day and left the frost cloth covering on for about the first 2 weeks until I saw decent germination. Due to the environment here, straw covering doesn’t work because we get too much wind. A local greenhouse owner gave me the cloth tip a few years ago and it’s been a really successful way to seed here. It allows water, sunlight and air to penetrate through the frost cloth. I purchased 2 here on Amazon (10x50 feet I think they were).I would say germination was about 75%. I will fertilize and overseed again in the spring and fall next year. After that, I have a lot of clover to battle with. I’m satisfied with the results compared to the before but will probably move to a Scott’s rapid tall fescue next time I seed. I used a Scott’s “seeding” fertilizer with a pre-emergent for weeds that “supposedly” wont negatively effect the germination. I did still have tons of new clover come up but it didn’t appear to effect the germination rate of the tall fescue. Now, at day 27 I just have to water once a day-cut back last week. I still have to keep an eye on the weather as we do get freezes this time of year. I simply cover with the cloth until after day 45 (since seeding) at night if the temps get down to freezing. The cloth protects the new grass down to 21 degrees Fahrenheit. If you live in an easier climate with a better window, you will probably get better results than I did. It’s a difficult place to seed grass here but a learning process, none the less. I’m up for the challenge.

Wow, it's tall!! please read the final section!! not a joke
Much of the grass is short, sort of like you might find in a typical lawn. But much of it is TALL. I didn't realize that Pennington had mastered SUPER TALL FESCUE. Admittedly it looks a bit odd when the majority of the grass is about 2 inches tall after 5 weeks, but quite a bit of it is now 15 inches tall. If I wait until the old style normal grass is 3 inches tall to mow this new super grass may go to seed and take over the planet. With each new house I have started a lawn from seed. With a strict HOA I would be getting notices by now. While am amused by my new lawn, if this tall stuff is not an annual variety I will have to apply roundup to the whole thing and start over with another brand of seed. On the plus side this mess germinated quicklyFOUR DAYS AFTER FIRST CUTTINGFour days after its initial cutting the SUPER TALL, which I am certain you understood to be weed grass, started to go to seed. Within 2 months of planting I have to kill my new lawn. I cannot cut it every four days and if I let it go longer I run the risk of these weed seeds germinating and then I can never get rid of it.I initialy started this as a joking matter thinking that I could put up with it until the spring. Killing your lawn two months after you plant it is no joke. IF YOU BUY THIS GRASS SEED YOU WILL GET WEEDS LIKE ALL OF THESE OTHER REVIEWS CLAIM. WHY DIDN'T I BELEIVE THEM? THEY ARE TELLING THE TRUTH.

Seed takes longer then others to germinate
Some Seed did finally come up at around 50% rate, but took longer to germinate then 2 other brands I planted. As such I have adjusted feedback to 3 stars..

Quality product
Good price for quality seed. I think this is what some golf courses and athletic fields use?

Don’t listen to the negative reviews
My little front lawn speaks for itself, no majic, sorcery, no fertilizer just regular dirt, no moss, zero trickery. I am a landscaper though, a real one, not the kind that preps and tills a area before seeding without making sure weeds won’t reappear which they will!!!!When you till area that has maybe 10 weeds, what the tiller is doing is spreading over 1000 and planting the weeds seeds everywhere. Tilling is for breaking dirt up, when you till a weed you deposit seeds beneath the soil giving them a rich environment to grow. That is why you end up with more weeds than you ever had before. Weeds seeds and fescue seeds look very different I tried my hardest to find any other seed In my bag with no luck. I highly suggest spraying your favorite killer on the area rake the dead away, then sow your seeds. If your soil must be tilled, spray your favorite killer, then till, then wait a week for weeds to surface then spray again… then sow your seeds. I do not leave reviews I do not work for rebels grass seeds, I’m just here to tell you not everyone has a green thumb but anyones thumb can turn green. Also keep your seeds wet. All seeds for any plant need to germinate is water.. and warmth….no light ,no soil, they germinate within 4 days with no sun or soil inside a wet napkin ( try it). As you can see I had very good results these pics are the second cut. 150$ amazon lawnboy brand mower with a Matt I rigged behind to drag and lay the fescue down as I cut.Good luck, this is a real review that will make your grass growing experience better with any seeds I’m not advocating for any brand, this is a seed planting lesson. I purchased another tall fescue to reseed, my lawn is beautiful but if u zoom in u can see one or 2 spots that need the reseed as expected with fescue on a new seeded lawn, this tall fescue does not spread like burm grass.
