I’ve wanted a copy of this cookbook for some time and now that I have my own copy I’m very happy with it. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the author before buying and the book have some very nice reading and many recipes I can’t wait to try, so many great recipes and where I’m from it’s the second largest state of producing rice in the US and I know so many people that work in the rice mills even family members , so I always have plenty of rice on hand, with that being said, I love rice and I eat a lot of rice from rice puddings, fried rice, rice casseroles, rice and chicken bake, just plain cooked white and brown rice, rice fritters and many other rice recipes.

This is the first time I ever returned an item of my entire shopping history in amazon. For those who are non professional chef, cookbooks are a must and this tiny and slim book has none. The price does no reflect the value of the content.

Yet another informative, and useful book by Michael Twitty. He is an historian, superbly talented cook and a warm human being. He traces the history of Black people in America through their food and shows us all the great and beneficial gifts that they have made to our American cuisine. Rice is probably the most widely consumed staple throughout the world and it was the foundation of much of what has become the cuisine of Southern cooking, but is a wealth of delicious dishes for people in all parts of the country. Twitty tells the story and illustrates the telling with recipes that anyone will love. Get the book. Read it. Cook from it.

Just goes to show you that Rice and the enslaved Africans helped to build the white wealth of this country. Awesome recipes, I purchased some gold rice and can't wait to make the Okra Soup! Enjoyed the book and looking for the next one!

What I dislike, it could have been more historical techniques. Overall, I enjoyed the journey in historical facts regarding Ham's descendants' ACCOMPLISHMENTS. I LOVED THE BOOK. I NOW OWE ALL 3 OF HIS BOOKS.
