Boy did these save prove to be a life saver!
Well, I was helping my GF's son do his brake pads and disks on his SAAB 9-3 and we hit a "slight" technical hitch. the bolts that hold his calliper carrier on the front wheel needed an E-Torx socket. No problem I thought, I have a set of those and the biggest one I have is the E22 which is the exact size we need. So I gets the socket out and the 3/8" drive ratchet and we start trying to undo this nut. Blimey, tight isn't the word I would use to describe it! So I did what any sensible person would do, I got my 1.5m (5ft) long 1/2" breaker bar then realised the socket was 3/8" drive. No problem I thought, I'll use the 3/8" to 1/2" adapter. BAD idea, after us both hanging on the bar trying to undo this bolt (we had used copious amounts of penetration fluid and lots of heat by this time!), we both suddenly ended up in a heap on the floor. At first we thought the bolt had come loose and was about to get ready to start on the bottom one (2 bolts on each calliper!). That was when I discovered all it had done was shear off the adapter and the bolt itself hadn't budged. So I did what any clever person would do and got another adapter ready to try the same thing again expecting different results (sound familiar). This time I was sure it would be different because the adapter I got was a hardened impact driver one. So round 2. Guess what, The bolt won again and now i need a new hardened impact driver adapter! The next step was the obvious one, Amazon to the rescue. I came onto the site and searched for impact hardened E-Torx sockets for 1/2" drive and these are the ones I choose. the following day they arrived bright and early and with much trepidation we put the socket on the breaker bar and set it up on the nut and both leaned on it with all out weight (I'm definitely NOT a lightweight guy, I'm around 20st - 280lb). and this damn thing wouldn't budge. So once again I did what any self respecting bright person would do, I went into the garage and got the longest extension pole I could find which just happened to be a 3.5m (12ft) aluminium scaffold pole and slipped it over the breaker bar. Once again we both put all our weight on the end of this bar and FINALLY, the bolt started to turn and we got it undone. we looked to see what had made it so difficult only to find that whoever had changed it last time has used and abundance of Blue Loctite Studlock (the really tough stuff). the bolt was absolutely caked in it. This socket set saw us thought the other 3 of these bolts that were equally as tough to undo as well as lots of other bolts on the SAAB, and they still look to be in brand new condition. In my mind, I dont think you will get a better recommendation than that. If i had to buy another set of these, it would 100% be this exact set. It's brilliant.
