3M High Strength Large Hole Repair Kit with 12 fl. oz Compound, Self-Adhesive Back Plate, Putty Knife and Sanding Pad

The product shown at the top of the review is the Large Hole Plate Repair Kit, not the Large Hole Spackling compound. I am reviewing the Large Hole Repair Reenforced Spackling Compound as shown in the fourth picture. Where has this product been my whole life. My husband and I bought a 90-year-old house with wood clapboard siding. When we painted the outside of the house, we had the scrape the old paint off. We found some larger holes in the siding and a couple of places where the there was a little bit of previous termite damage on the end of a couple of boards. We also found places like you see in the first photo where the end of the board has rotted away. We removed the rotted wood until we found solid wood. We also used it to fill in areas between the boards that were too wide for caulk. This product with the fiberglass is stronger than the wood itself. The photos show before and after shots of one area on the house. As you can see, the product is very paintable. It is a lighter weight than regular putty and spreads like a whipped butter. Even if it looks dry, all you have to do is mix the part you think is dry with the rest of it and it will be fine. You must put the lid back on when you are not using it, just like other putty. Even though the product seems like it is not wet enough, it is just because of the fiberglass. We filled in the areas, sanded, and painted them. The areas blend in perfectly. We have bought multiple containers and will never use another product as long as this product is available. I have also used it inside as well since our house has tongue & groove wood walls on the inside in the bedrooms & kitchen. I have a couple of larger holes that I will have to use the Large Hole Repair Plates. My only complaint is that it does not come in larger containers. I ordered 32 oz containers. There may be a reason for that-I don't know. I would give it more than five stars if I could!!!!! This product has been a miracle for our house renovation, and I always make sure we have at least one tub of it on hand. Best Miracle Product Ever!!!!!!!

Review of 3M High Strength Large Hole Repair, Fiber Reinforced Spackling Compound, 12 oz. I had a large crack than ran from ceiling to half-way down the bathroom wall, an inch from the corner. This spackle, having fibers, works much better than normal spackle. Easy to work with, can be painted over without a primer first. I'm a novice at something like this and it turned out looking very good. My only mistake was buying a tub that was too small, so I had to get a second one. I used a 4" putty knife to smooth it out.

I was filling in a phone mount (who has a landline anymore?) and I have no experience with drywall. I was looking into these complicate deals with wire mesh, tape, etc and then found this and decided to give it a shot. It worked great! First, the kit says the surface needs to be clean and dust free. I did what I could but with all the insulation, etc in there it wasn't perfect by any means. I did use a razor to trim so of the ragged edges. The 3M backpiece still stuck and held very easily. You can break pieces off to adjust the size which is nice since one side of my hole was against a stud so I wanted to make that side shorter. Next, I filled it with the provided filler. This stuff is amazing! I've used basic spackle before and this is much easier to work with and just fill the entire hole. The tip of doing a final pass with the putty knife being wet helped a lot too. It took less than a minute to fill and smooth the hole. I also only used about half of the container and had plenty left that I used to fill other little holes/dings around the house. It did dry very fast and the next day was easy to sand down and make it smooth. It's worth noting that mine is going behind backsplash so I didn't care about texture but you'd have to get a separate texture kit if you wanted it to match a textured wall. This will be smooth. Overall, easy as pie, took no time at all, made me a lifelong fan of 3M filler products and I'd definitely buy it again. It included everything I needed from the back panel, spackle, putty knife and sandpaper.

This repair kit was exactly what I needed to tackle a DIY project that I have been procrastinating for years! With no prior drywall experience I did some research online, and after watching the 3M tutorial video I took a chance and purchased this kit. Everything that I needed was included in this kit. After less than 10 minutes the hole in the wall was completely patched up. This was no small hole either. My children had pushed a door knob through the wall and continued to pick away at the surrounding drywall, causing a 5 inch hole. Although some have mentioned having difficulty with the tape adhering to the surface of the inner drywall, I found that with extra care when sanding and applying greater pressure while attaching the patch was all that I needed. I encourage others to purchase this kit because of the ease of use and the awesome results!
